Aquarium Crayon Resist

Aquarium Crayon Resist

You'll Need

paper,crayons. tempera paint,water,paintbrushes
To begin this project I read the book Rainbow Fish. While reading, I pointed out the beautiful colors of the illustrations. After the book we went to the art table and I told the kids to draw a crayon picture of a fish or something else that might live in the ocean. I stressed to them how they must mark heavily with the crayons as they drew. When everyone had finished their drawing, I gave them a small cup of watered down blue tempera paint. You could also use watercolors but the color is more dramatic when using the tempera. Each child did a wash over their drawing. The blue made the water and it did not stick to the crayon markings. The result was a beautiful aquarium or underwater scene.
