Bird Watching/collecting data

Bird Watching/collecting data

You'll Need

bird feeder,bird seed,notebook,pen or pencil
Select a design for a simple bird feeder. This can be as simple as letting your little ones smear peanut butter on a pinecone and covering it with birdseed, or as challenging as drawing up plans and building a masterpiece. It all depends on how you want to go about it. Hang your bird feeder on trees, eaves, or whatever you can find. Encourage your kids to check their feeders at least twice a day to observe what types of birds are feeding from your feeder. This can be a simple project or a summer long science experiment collect data about the birds in your neighborhood. VARIATION: If you are a family that enjoys the outdoors (camping and such) an idea also would be to take along birdfeeders, hang them, and watch birds from different campgrounds, parks etc. It's a great way to learn about the types of birds in your area. Graphing the results is a great activity and opens doors for further observations and discussions.
