Garbage Dump

Garbage Dump

You'll Need

Sensory Table with Dirt,Different trucks to play in the dirt with, garbage (paper,etc...)
You may want to go for a garbage walk....explaining that garbage does not go on the ground, but many people put it there. Monitor closely what they are picking up, of course, watch for glass, cigarette butts, etc. Put garbage in a bag to take back to the garbage dump. Or, you can just place items of your own in the garbage dump that you make (paper, plastic lids, broken toys, containers, etc.) The dirt in the sensory table (or big plastic bin) represents the earth in general. Add the garbage from the walk (or from your home)....bury some, and leave some on top. Tell the kids to try to hide all the garbage....bury it in the dirt. The idea is that it will not go away....it is just under the dirt....in landfills etc. Help to illustrate the need to reduce the amount of garbage we generate. You can also do this activity during a recycling or Earth Day unit.
