If using finger paint, put a little on a sponge (homemade washable stamp pad!) Make thumbprints around the border (for cards or scrapbook) or all over for wrapping paper. After paint/ink dries, go back with black marker. An older child or adult draws head on narrow end of thumb print. the head looks like an oval on it's side. Then draw two short antaenna. Draw and upside down Y starting at the head to separate the wings. Color the open portion of the Y (v) black. At this point, the kids put the dots on the wings. YOu can do this in conjunction with a whole ladybug day, where you talk about what ladybugs eat (aphids) and either look for or release ladybugs (available at your garden store). Also, write ladybug poetry. Kids LOVE ladybugs.
