Have you said
"You're a great helper!"
to a child today?
Paper Bag Pumpkin
  • lunch size paper bags
  • newspaper
  • orange paint
  • paint brush
  • yellow paper
  • scissors
  • glue and tape
  • THIS IS A 2 DAY PROJECT

    1. Cover the workspace with newspaper
    2. Give each child a paper bag.
    3. Give the children a stack of newspaper and tell them to crumble the paper up into balls.
    4. Stuff the paper into the bag, filling the bag almost to the top, but leaving enough room to tape the bag closed.
    5. Hold the bag together at the top and tape it closed forming the 'stem'. Masking tape works best, because it can be painted over.
    6. Give each child paint and a brush and allow them to begin painting. We put paint on a paper plate for each child, so it is easy clean-up for the children.
    7. Set the painted bags somewhere to dry.
    THE NEXT DAY
8.Talk with the children about the face of a jack-o-latern. Discuss the type of shapes they could use.
9.Give the children yellow paper, scissors and glue. Allow them to cut out a face for their pumpkin and glue it on. (we put glue on a small paper plate and use popsicle sticks to spread on glue for this project) Let glue dry, and you're done!
