ds is only 5, but he is playing soccer for the second year.

He is definitely the smallest guy on the team and probably the slowest. He also has the attention span of his father and can be seen sticking his arms and head in and out of his shirt during the game. Not to mention taking a few moments of laying down on the grass... despite the fact that he isn't on break!

He is also just a mellow and quiet guy. He doesn't like to "mix it" up going for the ball. I think he'd rather take turns. He'd get so upset at practice when the other guy kicks his ball away. I keep explaining to him "Son, that is what they are supposed to do!" lol

Anyway, he loves to go out and play and as long as he does we are happy. He is in his second season and has never scored a goal.

Well... last night he gets the ball and starts kicking it down field. For some reason he is all by him self and starts kicking it, with about 3/4 of the field in front of him to make a goal.

All the adults are standing and cheering. I think they all know ds has not yet scored a goal and they want him to do it as badly as I do. With every kick, more cheers.

Well, he didn't quite get it in but he was soooo close. I still don't remember if he kicked it out of bounds or if somebody got in his way. I was too excited for him to care!

Anyway, it was a great moment. He was so excited and isn't used to having that much attention paid to his soccer abilities.

Well, I'll let you know when he scores!

I love watching kids play sports.

What fun! :bounce:

I love those moments of sheer joy, playing for fun, and the parents supporting them!!!!

they get unfortuntantely fewer and far between as they get older.

Way to go to your ds. It is so much fun watching little ones play sports. I like it when they take pride in their accomplishments. (even if it is not always the accomplishment they were supposed to accomplish LOL!)

My ds is also in his second year of soccer. I never would have imagined it to be so exciting!! Right now he is in a developmental program which has really taught him some great skills. I am looking very forward to the "real" season to begin, and to make it even more exciting dh is going to coach!

"Way to go!" My kids never played soccer. Just Baseball and basketball. I remember when oldest played T-ball it was just a hoot to watch the little ones. Ds was on a winning team (undefeated in league and tournament), but bless his little outfield heart. He'd be out there watching planes fly over or picking flowers. He was a great hitter, and that was good because he was a slow runner. He'd only get to 2nd and hit the ball to the fence.  I remember never needing a lawn chair because all the moms were leaning on the 3rd base side fence. Those were the days. Youngest ds doesn't like baseball.

I can just picture him running and kicking that ball... LOL Way to go!!!! :yippee: I've been to a few of my dck's soccer games and their SO much fun to watch. Hardly any of the kids are actually watching what's going on but looking up at the sky watching airplains, birds... anything and everything but what they should be watching. One of my guy's even started doing summersaults. LOL As long as their having fun... that's what counts! :)
