Mother's Day is right around the corner and I thought it would be fun to hear some neat stories. Not the email ones that get passed around, but something of your own experience. Something about your mother, MIL, or special "mom" in your life. Maybe even a mother's day contest you won? One of your special days?

Well, since nobody seems to have any good stories! How about what gift you are giving your mom? What are you getting?

I bought books for my moms. "Chocolate for a Woman's Heart" and "The Prayer of Jabez." Dh is going to pick up some Godiva chocolates today to complete the gift.

Actually I am stumped as to what to get my mom, so I'm waiting for all of you gals to give me some brilliant ideas! :) I told dh not to get me anything this year because I just want to go shopping to get stuff for our new house! He couldn't believe it and thought it would be boring - I am actually excited :yippee: about it and can't wait!! :)

I am making "clay pot pals" for my mother and mother-in-law each, along with another item specifically for them (CD for one, book for another)...The clay pot pals are made from 17 terra cotta clay pots (14 of one size, 3 of another), some wire, and some sheet moss...saw the idea in a magazine once, and got the instructions from Southern Living's website. You then put a flowering plant into the pot that makes the head. They are too cute (if you don't count my workmanship!!!)

Kathleen - Sounds like a neat idea! I'd have to see a picture to be able to do something like that.

I just remembered that I wanted to do the Journal Jar for my mom, but I don't know if I'll have time this week to pull that off. :(

Hi ladies. I may be a minority on the board because I have a great MIL and mom! Of course they can both drive me batty on occasion, but they are both great 99% of the time.
Two totally different personalities, but each one seems to step in when I need it the most. My mom can be brutally honest! LOL My mil loves to "take care" of people....our kids being her #1 priority!

I am lucky!

darlene - You are lucky!!! My mom is absolutely fabulous, my mil on the other hand is another story. She is causing some serious troubles right now and dh doesn't even want to send her a Mother's Day card. :( So, for all of you with good mil's, count your blessings! :)

My MIL is definately a blessing. I would guess that is why my dh is so awesome!

I'll tell a story about my Mom. When my siblings and I were little, Saturdays would be a day of play. Dad was usually working, so it was just us kids and Mom. These are my favorite memories of childhood(no offense to Dad!) We would play board games, do jigsaw puzzles, and my favorite part, dancing with Mom. Mom would crank up the music and we would all take turns dancing with her. There were waltzs, two-stepping, fifties, we did it all. I think of those afternoons everytime I hear the Everly Brothers, or Conway Twitty. I now do this with my own children and it is even more rewarding to play the Mom role in this activity. To see those little arms reach out for me as soon as I turn on the music just warms my heart:)

Believe it or not my best Mother's Days have been when we went fishing as a family. It gets a lot more nerve racking now trying to watch two or three poles at the same time. I just love being next to the water. It's usually so peaceful and tranquil.

I've never really gotten a whole lot in ways of gifts for Mother's Day, but dh has usually let me plan what we do for the day.

As for my mom, she's very generous and giving, but she's also a work a holic. Except for church she has little desire to go anywhere. She doesn't like to eat out either. This year I got her a rose scented candle with a base and a snuffer (the thingy you use to put out candles). If nothing else, I'm sure she'll use the snuffer during Advent when she uses the advent wreath.

I don't really have a MIL, just a step MIL and dh and her don't get along too great. Long story there!

Hope you all have a Happy Mother's Day!!

I haven't gotten my mom anything yet. I don't know what to get her. I know that it will be late, but I have already mailed out the card. As for mil, dh could care less, but I did get her a card for him to sign from both of us. That is all I will get her though.

The southern living website did have a picture of the clay pot pals -- otherwise, I wouldn't be able to make it! They also make a life-size one and a dog, but I thought I had better start small! There are step by step instructions and pictures, so it has gone pretty well.
