View Full Version : Anyone else have Black Flies?
they are little nat like things, that here in Central New York, at least in the county, bite the heck out of you, and nothing distracts them, Off, Skintastic, nothing...I hate going out in the yard, they cover me and the kids, and then we are big bites....my son looked like somthing out of a horror show, Balmexed all of the bites on his face and he looked even stranger, but it takes the swelling out.....just wondered if anyone else across this board gets them.....season will be ending and then Mosquitos.....yuck..

We don't have any here in Indiana. The mosquito's are back though. My neighbors lived in New York and had a beautiful yard they never used because of all the nasty pests there. She said the ticks were the worst! I hope you find something to repell those flies!

The show I saw on 20/20 or something showed the ingredient used in OFF! worked 100% at preventing bug bites. I think it was just mosquitos though. Skin-so-soft did not fare nearly as well.
But... I remember somebody telling me a story of going rafting in Colorado and just getting devoured by flies. There were a couple of locals there who were unharmed.
Their secret..... Skin so soft!
If either Off or Skin so soft won't work I'm not sure what will, but I'd try both. There is also some skin so soft that combines as a sunscreen, and stuff you can take a bath with as well.
The only other thing you can use that I can think of would be Citronella Candles or the OFF perimeter stuff to encourage the flies to go elsewhere.

We get them but not til a bit later in the season. They are more plentiful near the lakes. Doesn't matter what I put on they seem to think I'm a tasty treat.

So far we don't have them but I remember last year they were around for a while... I just can't remember exactly what month it was. LOL I sure remember how awful they were though... Ugh. I hope they'll be gone soon and you'll be able to get back outside with the kids again without having to worry about getting eaten alive. LOL :)

You don't have them? They are kind of gnat/fly like bugs that fly around mating...connected. They have also been called "screw bugs".
