Amen!

Nothing much happening here. Ds2 isn't feeling well at all and is Mr. Crankypants this morning! I'll probably just rock him a lot today and plan on gluing myself to the recliner. Gymnastics later for the older three.

Happy bday to your ds, Ann!

Ann- Is today ds's birthday? Just wondering since you said his birthday restaurant dinner. Dd's b-day party on Friday sounds fun. Your dks get invited to some interesting parties.

Got up bright and early (it's actually dark still though) to get some stuff done around the house before the 2 dcks arrive. I feel like I'm treading water when it's coming to keep my house clean. I need a maid and more storage space! Things that had a home (place to put them) before I started setting up for dc have been sitting on the floor on my room, ds's room and dd's room because I have no place for them! I don't have any plans tonight after work so maybe I can take care of some of it. My mom and step dad arrive here Friday mid-morning and I'd like some of it put away. They will be here for a week. My stepdad's family is having a family reunion in a small town only 25 miles from my house. We're spending the weekend with them at the hotel where the reunion events are taking place. I haven't seen my stepbro in almost 5 years and haven't seen my stepsis in about 4. It will be strabge to see them all grown up! Also meeting stepsis's bf that she has been dating and living with for over 2 years. I'm excited to see them even if it's only for the weekend. Only my parents are staying the week.

Ds2 has a doc. appt. today. I took him right off the Ritalin about 2 weeks ago and do not plan to put him back on. It was so hard to tell over the summer and I found even last year if there was any difference in him, at school or home. Now I can see much more clearly. There is a difference in him at school, his teacher said he is not disruptive but he isn't completely all his work. BUT at home he's a totally different kid now. He's more talkative, playful, he jokes more and the big thing for me is he doesn't want to be glued to his nintendo games anymore. He's outside playing with the other kids instead of me making him go outside! So, we will see what she says but right now my attitude is that the school will have to deal with it because I don't want my son to be a zombie and he was on such a low dose I don't know if there is one lower. Funny, same meds, totally different doses for both boys and such different outcomes. The older one is on a much larger dose and I don't see the side effects in him, except the appetite which we have learned to work around.
Anyhow, that's my morning if I ever get my butt in gear. And this afternoon I want to take out the winter jackets if I can reach them in the crawl space. They need to be washed but I might have to wait for dh to hawl them out. Physio tonight. That's about it. Have a good day all :)

(((HUGS))) I have heard that cod liver oil capsules (the gel ones) are supposed to help. Ds1 can't swallow them yet, so we've not pushed it much. Just an alternative for you to think about.

Good morning, suppose to be another nice day, most of the snow has melted but there still are some piles of it, and mud where there isn't, don't know which is worse, the snow or mud!

My day hasn't started out so good, woke up feeling very freaked from my dreams,(dreamt about mice all over the floor) had to have dh go turn on the lights before I got out of bed! Then was just about to leave for early morning gym when I look at my calendar and realized I have a cake order for noon today, so had to whip up the cake, stick it in the oven and have dh take it out. I know he wasn't impressed with me. So hopefully the decorating is uneventful and the rest of my day will be on track.

AnnW- Happy early birthday to your son, can they get their learners licence at 15 in Texas, like they do here, that's when all the fun begins!!!

Don't have a lot of time to read all the posts today...ds is at work with me for "take your kid to work" day...it's open to all grade 9 students. He is drawing right now and I'm just quickly checking stuff. It's ironic that the year I can bring him in to work that I'm working in the fine arts school.

Will you be the brave parent to drive with him once he gets his learners, or will you leave that up to your husband. :nervous:
I didn't mind driving with ds, I even let him drive me around in the city with his learners, but I was so nervous with dd, but she was too and never left town. She still has never driven in the city.

We have been driving around the neighbhorhood but it will be weird to have him driving on the highway!
We are going to TN this summer for a family wedding and technically he could help drive....... :goofy:

You've already been driving around the neighbourhood!?
Doesn't he have to finish the driver's ed. course to get a learners permit?

Here you have to be 15 to take the course, which is offered as a non-credit course at the highschool and then you can get your learners permit. When you have your learners you can only drive with your parents and them must be 16 to try for your drivers.

Mel, what you said about your ds #2 is exactly what I fear for my ds. He actually went to his first neurofeedback appointment today. We call it his brainmaster school. He thinks he will be like a yu gi oh master, except with brains. ROFL I am excited about the possibilites; the MD was nice and very competent; and ds seems very motivated.

Dd is at work with my mom today. She is a hairdresser, and dd is taking cosmotology at school, so it fit in nicely.

Amy, we're still in the process of doing research on it. Did they give you a ballpark as to how many sessions your ds might need? Do you mind me asking how much each session is? I was surprised to find several providers in Tucson! I thought we'd have to go up to Phoenix, so that's not as daunting as it could have been. Too bad insurance doesn't cover. I'm glad your ds likes it! :*

Doctor wants to try ds2 on a different med. I forget the name now but some kids take it if the ritalin doesn't work. I will continue to keep a very close eye on him because I don't want him to be 'zombie' like at school or home. We will try this one for a month and stop it if I see the same effects.
I feel bad for him because I know he's having a hard time concentrating at school but kept him off because of the moods. Here's to hoping.
Amy, glad the first appt. went well.

Ann, here you need to be 15 or 16 to get your learners but it's a graduated thing and they need it for so many months before getting a full licence. I still think 15 is too young to drive. :nervous: Fern, do you have the graduated licence there too?

Supposedly, its 20 hours of sessions to get initial goals. The doctor said sometimes you can quit at 15 sessions and sometimes it might take MANY sessions. He said he had a little girl that was so hyperactive, that she couldn't sit still long enough to do any testing on her. He said she would require months to years of sessions and that the mother would be better off ($$) by getting a home program and doing it at home.

He did a TOVA test on ds today. It was 22 minutes long and to an ADD child that might as well be eternity! LOL But, ds DID sit still long enough to do it even though he wanted to know every minute how much longer would it take. The doctor was impressed. You could definitely see his impulsiveness increasing as he was getting tired of it.

This doctor does 45 minutes to 1 hour sessions at $85.00 per session. Ds goes every Wed and Sat morning. In the book that I read, it said with assessment fees and 20 hours worth of sessions it could cost from $2500-$5000 for the program. My doctor doesn't charge an assessment fee and if you go the full 20 hours, you get 2 sessions free, so our total cost will be $1540. It helps that he is a country doctor too! He was doing his internship in San Franciso in the 70's and that is where the neurofeedback became an alternative source of help. He followed it all these years and has kept up with the training. I really feel like he knows what he is doing.

I learned to drive at 15 so I can't really say anything except that now I am the mother! LOL When did you learn to drive?
They get their learners permit at 15 after they have completed 40 hours of class time, but must have a parent or guardian with them. Then they have to have 40 hours of driving time before they can get their full license at 16. Usually they will take the driving part right after they finish the class time. There are restrictions till 18? of no driving after 11, no more than 2 other kids in the car after certain hours.
