I've just been asked at the last minute to fill in as guest speaker at a pre-school graduation. It is a 10:00 this Saturday morning. I'm to pass out the diplomas and give a short talk.
What should I talk about. How short is short.
If it were Kdg. graduation (which we have never had, by the way) I'd know about what to say. But I'm really clueless about this.
Please ladies, I know this is short notice, but come through for me. Thanks in advance.

Are you to address the parents or the children?
Are these preschoolers going to be coming into your kindergarten?

Did you ask the preschool what they wanted you to talk about?

If addressing parents I think it would be appropriate to fill them in on what will be expected of the children in Kindergarten or ideas to do with the kids over the summer. Also emphasizing the importance of the parent's involvement in their child education.

If you are to talk directly to the children, I'd make it somewhat interactive, maybe asking them their favorite part of preschool, or what do they think Kindergarten will be like. Then tell them about some of the things to expect in Kindergarten.

I'm sure you'll come up with some wonderful ideas!!

Good Luck!! :)

I don't know how the preschoolers are there, but I know at the center where I work, they have almost no patience, so I would definitely keep it simple and short enough that you don't lose their attention. I mean this is their graduation, and their moment in the sun. Good Luck. I know that you will do fine. Let us know how it goes.

You mean there are kids out there with a shorter attention span than my Kdg students? Director said it was very informal, really short and basically just wanted me to stress the importance of staying involved with their kids. It will be ok. It's just my OCD and last minute things.
