I have tried once again with the sunless tanners. I have the new coppertone endless summer and its a beautiful natural color, but do you think I can get these %@!$ things on evenly????? NOT!!!! I tried exfoliating first, it helped a bit, but my ankles and wrists are hysterical. Poor dd helped me put it on my back last night and I had her wash her hands really well. Lo and behold she wakes up this morning with tan spots on her chin, a huge one around her belly button, arm and leg. She thought it was funny and she likes looking like a Cheetah. I was mortified! LOL Anyone have better luck with these things??

Not any more. Call me "whitey". Can't stand the smell.

Amy, just go out into the sun sweetheart! Actually you could hang out with ds and me this afternoon. We're out in the yard in our swimsuits. Not a pretty sight on me, but I have a farmer tan on my arms and legs that I had to do something about. Ds is actually in his underwear, but he's 3.

Im trying NOT to go into the sun! I love sunbathing, but we all know its unhealthy and I don't need anymore lines around my eyes! LOL

Kat-This one doesn't smell bad at all compared to the old formulas!

You can go to a spa and have them put it on for you. You may want to check in you area to see if it is available.

In addition to the exfoliating, try rubbing moisturizer all over yourself first, very thickly in the areas like knees, elbows and feet...also take a q-tip and rub it inside of your belly button and between your toes to get the excess tanner off. See if Allure magazine has back issues online, they just did a great how to on tanners.

Never tried them, I don't have the patience. AnnW, between your toes?? lol!

Amy just put a good sunblock on with a 30 SPF and after a few days you will see a nice tan like glow, the safe way.

Amy/CO - can I ever sympathize! I don't sun tan anymore. What really convinced me was when I saw a TLC/Discovery Channel show and they did comparisons of people that tan vs those that wear sun screen vs those that don't. WOW! I can't remember the details but they put everyone under some machine and showed how much skin was damaged. the images looked like those with the red areas hot and blue areas cool. You could vividly see the damage happening under the skin surface as well. These were younger woman so it didn't even look like it was happening yet.

Anyways, I never could tan so it wasn't a great loss. I tried tanning hardcore one year. Went to two tanning salons because they'd only allow you to go every other day. Just wearing SPF 30 wouldn't do it for me. I wear SPF 15 daily. I've been outside everyday for hours gardening every sunny day for a couple of weeks. Then I've been at baseball games and practise a couple of times a week. I've got a little more color than Nicole Kidman but how many people can pull the porcelain look off!?

I've been looking at the new self tanners seriously. What one did you use? I was thinking one of the mousse ones would apply more evenly. I wonder if you could mix a lotion self tanner in with a moisturizer? Sort of dilute it. Apply less more often. That way even if a line did appear it would be less visible. A lighter line here and a lighter line there instead of one very visible line in a single spot.

AnnW - do you remember which issue of Allure?

It was within the last couple of months...don't remember which one. I will look through my stack!

The Endless summer brand is the kind that is half moisturizer and half tan cream. I got the dark version of it and it looks like I spent the summer in the sun, but it fades/cracks after one day in some areas.

I am also fair by nature, so I really like a tan look for a change. If I were to lay out in the sun, I could tan easily, but just don't want to chance it.

I need to remember about the q-tip suggestion. Thats a good one!

My little sister is 12 years younger than me. She lays by the pool all summer to tan. I wear sun screen and sunglasses all the time. She has twice the wrinkles I have.

Looks like you received lots of good suggestions, but I just had to say that I was laughing out loud reading about your dd!
