View Full Version : Family pictures ~ what to wear!
We're getting our family pictures done this afternoon. It's for our church pictoral dirctory and we get to order copies. I had outfits planned out in my mind and the one I wanted to wear no longer fits me. :bawling: I have a hard enough time coordinating ONE outfit, but FIVE of them??? HELP!!!! The one dress that looks halfway decent on me is a lace floral jobbie. The girls have pastel pink and pastel lavender dresses. I was goin to put ds in a pastel blue shirt and dh in a blue shirt with two or three different blues in a wider stripe. I know this is the internet and you can't "SEE" what I'm talking about but does it sound like it will all work, or does it sound like we'll look like the Beverly Hillybillies???? HELP!!!
:tearhair:
Do you possibly have a skirt and blouse/sweater that would "go" with the girls' dresses? Are their dresses a solid color or a print? What is the background color by chance? Maybe you have a skirt of a similar solid color as the background, then choose a blouse or sweater to match. Remember, too, that you are the mother of the family, so it's okay for your outfit to reflect your unique difference to the rest. If it is easier, and if you have more options available, perhaps you and the girls could match the boys and dh with the feminine counterparts-- blue dresses or skirts. Solids, prints, stripes, whatever. I think it would look great just the same even if each person is wearing a different variety, just as long as the colors are similar. After all, each family member is a unique individual, as well as part of a group with a common bond.
We always "match" up when we have our pictures done, and even frequently when we go places, particularly church. It links us together as a unit, a team. Anyway, for one of our "dressy" pictures (and I am the only female in the family) my dh wore tan slacks and a light blue shirt. The boys wore matching tan slacks with white shirts and blue vests. I wore a tan skirt with a blue blouse. Very simple.

My favourite family photo of us is all of us in jeans and white tshirts. Youngest dd had jean overalls on. We all have barefeet, the photographer had dds take their hair out of barettes and ponytails, very natural, not posed, I love it. We are doing a similar one this year on the beach with the beast now that he will sit still and not try to eat the camera (or cameraman, lol)!

Too funny! I was going to suggest the same thing! I have the cutest photo of ds with my cousin's daughter and they're in denim and white!
Yep, I would do something with less pattern too.
Kahki and white
Denim and white
Navy shirts and kahki pants/skirt

We had a similar one done when Skylar was about a year old. Turned out great. We would like to do something similar when the little ones come along.
MK's post was the only one up before we left for the pics but as it turns out we did go with denim and white! How funny! :) The photographer was wonderful and we were able to get some really good poses. I'm really glad it's over though, LOL!

Glad it worked out well. We had a family pic taken this summer, and we all wore white tops and khaki pants (skirt for me) and it turned out so awesome! We look casual, yet "together".
