Does anyone have children with growth issues? My ds has always been on the bottom of the growth charts for height and weight. Around 5th percentile. A little over a year ago he dropped off the bottom of the chart and we have been watching it closely. When Dr. first became concerned she sent us for an x-ray to determine bone growth, and it did show growth. Today at his well visit his height has really dropped off. Dr. sent us for lab work up...not sure of everything...CBC Chem 12, Thyroid. We get results back next week and then schedule a visit with a pediatric endocrinologist. He was so brave for his very first blood draw, they took 4 vials. Any advice? Please say a prayer for him.

I will keep your little guy in my prayers. Hoping for the best!
Is he the smallest child in class? Does shortness run in your family? My friend has an almost 5 year dd who is the size of a 2-3 year old. She said she was the smallest in her school, but not as small as her dd. But, there is no concern either. Prayer said.
I was never on the charts, but that probably doesn't reassure you since you don't want a 5' tall son! It sounds like your doc is really on top of things and checking stuff out. My ds went from the 80th% at birth to always being at about 10% till he was 13 then he just took off, now he is about 5'10.

No Advice here....but my cousins dd went through the same thing and they found absolutely nothing wrong....she went to specialist and everything. It seems she's just finiky about eatting.....It's funny because when she comes to visit and is around her cousins.....she eats like crazy....her mother is amazed. I think it's because they run around like crazy. I don't think she gets much exersice at home....Also that whole "Monkey see ...Monkey do".
Anyway good Luck.

He is the smallest in his class. They call him shrimp, shorty, etc. I just want to knock them out! Can a 38 yo legally punch an 8/9 yo? Ds just rolls with it though. Every once in a while it bothers him. My dd who is 2 years younger is taller than he is. I always get asked if they are twins!? My girls have always been 90th Percentile for height and 50th for weight. Although dd1 has gotten so thin lately, add meds, that she has to drink a milkshake before bed. Brichard is 5'10, I'm 5'2 and a half...lol
I once went into the school after hours to retrieve some homework that was forgotten. The janitor asked why we were in the second grade hallway....he doesn't look big enough to be a kindergartener. Right in front of my son. People can be soooo thoughtful!

He is a very active child and a finiky eater. His eating has gotten better since the dr. gave him a good talking too. He has gained some weight, but not height.

He may sprout up later on and I am not extremely worried about his height. I just want to make sure there isn't something causing it. I was just joking around with the dr yesterday, she was giving me samples, if she had any levoxyl for my thyroid. Her eyes got big and she said, have we ever done labs on him for thyroid? He also has 2 swollen lymph nodes on the back of his head, they have been like that for a year+ Then the fear hits you that something could be "wrong" with him. I read last night that they check all newborns for thyroid in the hospital. I don't know if they were doing it when he was born though. Anyway, I'm having mommy freak out.

I don't have any advice either, but I know how hard it is to not worry sometimes. {{{HUGS}}}

Hope everything is okay, Angie ~ will definitely keep you in my prayers!!
My 10.5 yo nephew is very little. He has a June birthday and they had him start kindergarten a year later (mostly due to his size) and now that he's in 4th grade he is still the smallest in his class. My 2nd grader is actually taller and more filled out than he is. I'm guessing my nephew is 4' 4" or 5" and maybe 55 pounds. My sister has never really been concerned about it and I don't know that a dr has even mentioned anything about it, but I do know it bothers him.
Hope you get some answers soon and that it's nothing more than just waiting for a little growth spurt to kick in. :)
Dh has a 10 year old nephew who wears about a size 6x. The doctor's as far as I know, aren't concerned at all. His Mom is maybe 5'3 and his dad about 5'6.

Dawn was never on the charts. 8o She was also very finiky about everything she ate. I would practically have to hold her down, pry her mouth open and stuff the food in her mouth in order to get anything in her. 8o 8o It wasn't until she turned 12/13 that she finally started to get taller... but even today she is still very thin. (and taller than me... LOL) Also... I remember having to keep a chart of everything she ate. Doctor came to the conclusion that it's just the way she was going to be. :)
I will definitely keep him in my thoughts and prayers... Please let us know what you find out. :)

I'm with you on having a tiny son. Ds is in grade 5...10 years old..and I just tossed his size 4-6x undies out the other day! He has grown approx a 1.5 " since summer though.
But I agree with the dr. to have his thyroid checked. Especially with family history of it.
Hope you get positive news from tests.
:)
