We planned around naptimes and kept it short to prevent burnout.
We did a fishy theme... because his in may.

She may be more relaxed at home and less travel time to deal with. The only decorating we really did was some cute plates and cups. and a fishy carrot cake (healthier version.) There are alot of kids birthday sites on the internet.

I vote for a simple home party with a small number of close friends and relatives. That's what we did and it was really nice. A few balloons and teddy bear cake with a matching little cake for him to smear all over his face! :)
My cousin rented a hall and invited 100+ people and it was just ridiculous. The poor baby cried most of the time and was so overwhelmed.

Another vote for a simple home party. For one dk we had a teddy bear cake - the other had Sesame Street. Too many people and too much activity can be overwhelming for little ones and then no one has fun! :) Good luck!

I vote for at home too. Outdoor would be ok, but I would recomend at your house with just a few of the closest family or friends. Keep it simple. Birthday partys for a 1 year old tend to be more fun for the others than the birthday girl/boy. They usually just fall asleep.
Keep it simple, at home, family. I read somewhere that you you should invite only as many guest (friends) as the child is old (ie 5 year old - 5 guests)
