View Full Version : Little Green Square

This morning I noticed a new addition to our posts- a little green square located on the top right corner, just under how many posts you have. Anyone have any clue as to what it means?

If I hover my cursor over it, it'll say "so and so is on a distinguished road" or "so and so is off the scale".

I assume it has to do with the number of posts a person has. If you have less or more than a particular number, you are off the scale (Kate is off the scale with 100+ posts and KarlaB is off the scale with 8,000+ posts) Others are on a distinguished road... guess that means you're on your way to being off the scale in the other direction. LOL

That's just my uneducated guess.

David L are you messing around with us?

LOL...

Not messing with anyone on purpose!

I just turned on the 'Reputation' system. You should also see a little scales icon too. It's a way you can give people 'reputation points' or if you want to be mean, take some away.

It's not based on how many posts you have either!

Okay... so what exactly is suppose to happen when you approve of the post and write a comment? I noticed that her little green box didn't grow any longer, like yours is David. That and... when you write a comment, can the person you're giving "reputation points" to read them and if so... where?

Edited to add. I just noticed that I have 10 "reputation points"... can I tell where (or who) I got them from? LOL Sorry for all the questions...

Click on the scales icon in your own post, on the right side. It will tell you how many reputation points you currently have. Some of the scoring is a little off at the moment. You're supposed to start with 10 reputation points and a description of 'User is on a distinguished road' but the starting title isn't working correctly so a lot of people are starting with 'is off the scale' for some reason. Once someone gives you some reputation, that will change.

I had to make sure it was working so I bumped mine up to 2000. :goofy:

Anyways, your own post count doesn't change your personal reputation, but it has an impact when you give someone else reputation points.

Here are the rules:

For every 365 number of days, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power. (Which means that if you've been here for 2 years, when you alter someones reputation, your giving or taking away 2 points in addition to whatever other factors you apply.)

Post Count Factor
For every 1000 number of posts, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power. (So obviously those with a lot of posts can have a big impact on your reputation!)

Reputation Point Factor
For every 100 points of reputation, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.

Minimum Post Count
How many posts must a user have before his reputation hits count on others? 50

Minimum Reputation Count
How much reputation must a user have before his reputation hits count on others? 10 (Everyone starts at 10!)

Daily Reputation Clicks Limit
How many reputation clicks can a user give over each 24 hour period? Administrators are exempt from this limit. 10

Reputation User Spread
How many different users must you give reputation to before you can hit the same person again? 20

Anyways, if it becomes a pain let me know. I thought it would be fun to try it out!

I think it makes sense, but no offense David....it makes me feel like I'm back in high school and wondering who the cool kids will be and who will be left out.

Just my opinion.

I was thinking the same way. I figured it might just be a something fun to try for a bit. If it turns into something like that then I'll turn it off.

Of course, I'm the most cool anyways. :goofy:

I agree, Darlene...reminiscent of high school! I'm just glad we don't have to go back to having pimples and wearing braces! ;) Not that I ever had pimples or braces, mind you! I want to clarify that because I don't want that affecting my reputation here!

It's about as clear as mud right now.

Can a poster find out who gives them approval or disapproval votes? or read comments written?

For example, if you disapprove (I think that's the term used) of someone's post and click that box, and then put reasons in the comment box, such as " I think he/she was being rude" (or whatever) Will the poster of that know who disapproved of it and the comments that were made?

If that information is possible to attain, I think posters will be hesitant to disapprove. On the other hand, if it's all anonymous it could lead to a select few continually disapproving of someone they don't like. Please note --could--this is not to imply anyone here would, just saying it leaves the door open for that.

It's all anonymous.

You have to 'hit' 20 other people's reputation before you can 'hit' the same person again, so that shouldn't be a problem.

But again, if it's going to be a big issue, I'll just turn it off. I wasn't trying to start anything!!!

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply that it would be a big issue or that anything would be started. I'm just trying to understand this better. Actually it sounds like it could be kind of fun.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Amy/CO again
