View Full Version : Ode to dead hammie
:bawling: That freaking hamster died on ME! I was trying to keep her warm and then I wanted to see if she could even walk and she was dragging her back legs. I decided right then and there to take her to the vets to be put to sleep. As I was holding her, her breathing started to get shallow and then blood let out of her nose. Can we say lucky me?? Dd went to girl scouts crying (she didn't actually see her die) and wants a burial. Loving dh put her in a tupperware dish and I said that was disgusting, so he wrapped the tupperware in tinfoil.  Now I want to get her room clean of the stuff before she gets home. Every animal we have had, I ALWAYS witnessed their death and I HATE those moments right before death. Thank you for letting me vent! I am surrounded by men working in the kitchen, so I have to have a pity party at my favorite place. lol

Awwwwww....
That's sad, Amy. I'm sorry for your dd's loss. It's so difficult to lose a pet. Freaky that you seem to see them out of this life, though.
( and a little creepy, too!)

((AnnW)) you are a little touchy! Is your thyroid acting up...rofl
Amy - I am so sorry. I can't deal with that sort of thing at all. I hope dd gets over it quickly.
((((((((((Amy))))))))
You are the BESTEST friend of Hammie I could ever have!!! :* :* :* :*
I agreed with Cathy that its rather freaky that these animals always have me around when it is time for them to die. This coming from a person who won't even step foot in a pound because I don't want to see animals whose days are numbered. lol
Thank you all. Dd looks rather well this a.m. If I know her, she will get teary at night for the next couple of days if she starts thinking of it. I put down our cat back in 2002 and she still tears up if we start talking about him. No more hamsters!

Ummm, Amy. I was really sympathetic too, you know! I just didn't want to hug you 'cause you didn't mention washing your hands, and I didn't want hamster guts on my back. :nurse: :goofy:

I didn't want to point out like some people that you seem to be rather the grim reaper of animals!
Give her a hug from me!!!

On your back?? Heck, if you were here, I would be rubbing my hands all over your head and face. :p
How sad! I'm glad that it didn't happen to your dd and that she didn't see it.

Jen,
You make me feel guilty for briefly expressing sympathy and then moving onto a fairly dark humor. You have made an important point. I am very happy that her dd wasn't there.
Amy,
Dh's dd has a fish that is really swimming slowly. Could you stop over? She's gone for the weekend, and with you being used to death throes and all.....
(and I do not suck. Quit being mean. I'm just observant.)

Even if it was a good point, dark humor is always better! LOL

Sorry about Hammie. Hopefully dd will take it in stride.
I think Amy that a good name for you is an  (and no... not of death! ).
:)

Yes Diane, you are right~ just what I was thinking. Sorry Amy you had to deal with a dying pet. Hope your dd is feeling a bit better now. My dd used to have guinea pigs (I think same/similar to hamsters) and we got USED to them dying. I'm so glad she doesn't keep them anymore. I think the average life expectancy for them is 2 years.

Ever sad. Your poor dd. I too am glad she didn't see it, I know I'd be freaked seeing the blood come out of the nose never mind a little girl. ((hugs to you both))
Of course now that the hamster is dead, it'll become a legend. After our husky died (we had it before having kids) it became a better dog! LOL The kids talked about her steady as if she was super dog or something. Go figure.
