I was thinking we could take our portable dvd player with some movies for him, but kind of got stumped after that. I doubt he'll be in a private room which means the tv will probably be turned to the Spanish stations. I imagine he's not going to be real comfortable in any kind of position, but would something like holding a book not be a good idea? He does like to read and might even play ds1's gameboy if he got real bored. Flowers or balloons wouldn't do much for him, but the kids are making him get well cards.

Any suggestions would be great!

Make sure you have head phones for the dvd player.
He might be able to do the gameboy, but not sure he could hold a book, but what about a diskman and books on tape?

I hadn't thought about headphones! I like the idea of books on tape, too. Our library has a ton! Who knows... we might even be able to find one of the book I was thinking of taking him. :)

Good ideas. The kids cards will cheer him up.

May be you could all tape your letters to him that way he can listen to them when he wants...I'm assumming talking On the phone might be uncomfortable..so this way he can feel in touch with the outside world.

Does he like puzzles? Maybe he could do small ones on a tray that he could reach or can he not reach over?
I like the books on tape idea or dvd player with headphones.
Does he have a cell phone? Maybe get him a set of earphones or headphones for it so he can talk on the phone easier.

I must have missed something...Is he in a hospital setting? Can't use Cells....But it is a great Idea if you can.

OK, maybe it's just me, but if he can hold a gameboy why couldn't he hold a book?

I was thinking maybe he could prop a book up on a bed tray, but that would probably be too fatiguing. He's got some kind of brace on now (not sure exactly where it covers him... not sure exactly which ribs are cracked), but maybe that'll help him move a little more pain free.
