View Full Version : What's your favorite sunblock for kids?
We're getting ready for vacation and I've decided to become very picky, lol! Is it pretty much true that all sunblocks are created equal, or is that my wishful thinking? We've tried Coppertone, the purple stuff (yuck!) Banana Boat, Bullfrog, and a bazillion others! A friend of ours even has one that you squeeze the sunblock out onto a sponge at the top of the tube and use that to spread it. Yeah, right. Doesn't happen that way and you end up getting gunky anyway. My pet peeve with three kids is that it takes a half an hour to get them all greased up and ready to go! We tried the Coppertone to Go the sunblock spray, but it's in a pump and my wimpy little finger gives out long before we're done. Please tell me that someone makes a good sunblock in a trigger spray!! Windex Woman here could handle that!
Please share your favorites and peeves about the wonderful summer sunblock experience! :)
The best is coppertone sport spray..it's rub free and you don't have to wait 30 minutes before going in the water. It does leave kind of a film, but it's waterproof and sweatproof....AND my kids will wear it.

Pam - Great question!! I was just thinking about this today. One of ours is almost gone, another expired and I can't stand the green spray on stuff we have. :tearhair:
Thanks for the recommendation Ann! I'm gonna try it! :)
I too like the question!! Dd got the mousse stuff and its horrible! Its orange, goes on orange and stays orange her skin! She looks like a salamander! LOL I'm all for a spray that you don't have to rub in.

I agree about the colored stuff. Ds loves green, so we thought it would be fun. Guess again!! I also thought I would love the spray, but it defeats the purpose when it's still messy/slimey and leaves green all over! Another vote for spray that you don't have to rub in. :)

Our favourite is Ombrelle. It is scent free and dermatologist tested. Comes in a number of different varieties and applications including spray. We use the spray at the beach and I rinse it out at then end of the day (the nozzle) to keep it from clogging up.
I also like the large chapstick-like stick that banana boat has (non-coloured) to swipe the kids under the eyes and on their noses every 30 minutes or so. It has a handy clip on it so it can be clipped onto backpacks or purses.
I like water babies. Hate the blue (or any colored ) stuff. Asked dh the other day if he had any left. He said yeah, but it was in the boat. So next morning I'm getting ready for a school field day and just before he leaves for work, he goes to get the sun block. It's blue, and it doesn't really disappear that well. I felt like a smurf.

I use Coppertone Water Babies spray. It doesn't have any color. I have used the blue also and it is terrible (smurf city!) I love the stick as it is easy to wipe all over squirmy children and rub it in a little.
just easy and works great....I hate the colored stuff too, its gross, messy and looks wierd..... LoL

I will take anything that has a high spf and is non-greasy. But after hearing you all talk about the spray I am going to try them. The stick for the face sounds good and handy too. I also tried the colored stuff and didn't like it. It was purple and took forever to disappear. I think right now we have water babies, by coppertone? It's all great but takes so long to put on two restless kids that I'm all for getting the spray this weekend. :)

We also use the coppertone sport spray. just spray it on, no rubbing needed. I have bought the blue color gunk for ds in the past, because he just HAD to have it. It convienietly dissapeared one day. dd used the purple stuff at a friends place one time and got it on the sleaves of her white t-shirt. I never could get it all out. It still has very faint purple stains on it. I've never seen the stick for under eyes and nose but will have to look for it. If I have the summer off, we will likely spend a lot of time outdoors.
