View Full Version : Graduation gift ideas?
Our niece is graduating high school next week and I need an idea of what to send. She lives out of state so we won't be going (we're not invited anyway) but mil is so I can send with her. I'm thinking money but am open to other ideas.
Maybe I should clue you in....she lives with our ex-sil, we have NEVER in 18 years received a thank you note or call for anything we've sent - gift or money. Now we get the graduation announcement and need to send something. I should add, her dad, my bil, is good to my kids. So....ideas?? (maybe a box of thank you cards? LOL)

When I graduated I actually got a box of thank yous and blank note cards with stamps on them. The idea being that I would be a poor college student and that would make it easier for me to keep in touch with people! :) I actually thought it was a good idea and fun to receive, so maybe you could do something along that line and the amount you spent would be so apparent like when giving cash? Good luck!! :)
(maybe a box of thank you cards? LOL) Too funny!
But, then I read Karla's post and it really is a good idea. If she's going to college, maybe something for the dorm. I usually just give cash. I did get 2 of my nieces a little devotional book as well (the 2 I knew would appreciate it).
thats a good one, I got a box of blank note cards from my Aunt, with a bunch of stamps....she said I would need them, and she was right....I also got a nice pencil and pen set, I know how silly right, but those things I still have, and the blank note cards came in handy when I was writing for money...LOL...carepackages...
My next door neighbor's son is graduating so I called and asked her what he wanted. He is trying to buy some computer thing from Best Buy so he is asking for Best Buy dollars (which is what I thought about getting him initially but I usually do that for Christmas and wanted to do something "special")...so he is getting Best Buy dollars!!
I like the idea of notes cards..you could have them monogrammed.
I guess my smary answer of thank yous might actually work! Thanks for pointing that out! :) Stamps, note cards...things to take to college as a care type package...that would work and I wouldn't look rude like I was thinking! ;)
I like the Best Buy money, too! That's a great gift - one of my favorite places!

I always play it safe and give money... but the Thank You's, note cards and stamps also sounds like a great idea! I just gave my dd money for her graduation... because I know that she ALWAYS needs money. LOL That way she can buy whatever she wants... :)

If you don't want to give money (if I did I would write a check), then I agree that note cards/papers/stamps would be a great idea...you could throw in a long-distance calling card, too.
