Good lord ladies!! Ds is killing me with his potty training methods! I put the potty chair on top of the normal seat . Now he goes in there, whips it off, sits on the toilet like a dog going to the bathroom (feet and hands both on toilet seat) and if you can envision that much-guess where he is aimed? LOL Directly towards the shower glass doors and wall!!!!!! There is pee everywhere on the bathroom. THAN he tries to aim it down and it is spraying all over himself. Now I have HIM to clean and the BATHROOM. He is doing so well going by himself without me reminding him, but he all of a sudden wants to play grown up. I think Im just venting here, but if you have any fabulous advice, Im definitely ready for it!! LOL

My youngest ds didn't want anything to do with a potty chair or special seat. When he decided he was ready to use the toilet, he wanted to stand up from the start.

I've never tried this, but my bil told me that they had their little girl sit backwards on the toilet and it worked much better. Not sure how that would work for boys.

Good Luck!

LOL... oh, what a mess!!! :) I had a little boy in my day care who would continually knock the ***** guard off INTO the potty chair while he was sitting there waiting to go. It really hadn't been a big deal because he had never actually GONE potty, so... Well, one day I opened the door to see how he was doing, just in time to see a nice big stream of potty go flying up through the air and directly INTO the sink. Maybe it really wasn't funny (and you'd have to be there to appreciate it) but I stood there and laughed my butt off. He was pretty proud of himself for going... :yippee: LOL

Sitting backwards on the toilet DOES work for boys too... I had a little guy (and girl) who would go like that. The only bad part was that they usually always totally undress and it takes quite a while for them to get done (redressing)... I'd rather teach them to stand right away IF they can stand and reach the toilet without making a big mess. I'm SO glad my own kids are over that stage. :) LOL

Diane...

Thanks for the advice! I had a friend who also used the backwards position. I will try it with him next time. Right now he seems not tall enough to use it standing up. Did you use stools or something?

Diane-that story was extremely funny about the little boy! Im full of potty humor!:brow:

I stood behind him and let him stand on my feet . At first I had to lift him up a little higher than that though. He was so determined to be a big kid he'd stand on tip toes and hold it up there enough so he could do it himself! LOL He's been the neatest /cleanest of my boys- very few mishaps.

My ds has always insisted on 'standing like a Big Boy from day one. He would have a fit if you tried to get him to sit down. He did have a small stool to begin with. We did have a couple of messes to clean up but he caught on pretty quick.

Oh yeah...and just wait until he wants to try to use that little "whole" in the underwear! LOL We never used a stool for the "stand up" potty sessions...but always encouraged them to stand close to the potty. Also, we used to throw some pieces of dry toilet paper into the potty for him to "aim" at...both while sitting and standing. (I've also heard that Cheerios work well for this.)

Dh introduced this to ds a couple months ago (who knows why LOL) and he has attempted it on his own - sometimes more successfully than others!!
