Other ways to help protect your teeth
Even if your water is fluoridated, it is still important that you look after your teeth by:

* Eating a healthy diet
* Brushing your teeth regularly
* Having regular dental check-ups
* Using a toothpaste with fluoride in it.

Use the correct fluoride toothpaste
Choose the right fluoridated toothpaste for children. Other suggestions include:

* Introduce low fluoride toothpaste when a child is approximately two years old.
* Use a child-size toothbrush with soft bristles.
* Use low fluoride toothpaste for children under seven years of age.
* Smear a pea-size amount of low fluoride toothpaste across the toothbrush.
* Encourage children to spit out toothpaste, not swallow it.
* Supervise children when they brush their teeth until you are sure they can do it well.
* Only use fluoride tablets if prescribed by a dentist, as they can cause dental fluorosis (mottled teeth).
