HI everyone, first time using so be gentle :-)

I have a specific problem which is of great concern to me and my family and wondered if anyone else has encountered this as suggestions would be welcome:

when I drink water (or any fluids) after the first few sips, my throat seems to close up and I feel terribly bloated. This results in not being able to swallow any more and I feel as though what I have swallowed will "come back up". Is this something indicating damage to my sphincter or oesophagus? The odd things is that I seem to be able to drink coffee just fine. My daughters nag me as they are trying to get me to lose weight (at my request for help) but they are concerned as I won't drink the fluid intake necessary for any diet to work.

I am not looking for justification that i DON'T need to drink - I want to ask if anyone has any suggestions why I can't see, to swallow and what can be done. Best wishes and look forward to some possible avenues to explore further. x

Have you seen a doctor? They can do a swallow test to see what's happening.

I think you should see the doctor to....but I'm curious...do you take muck larger mouthful when it not coffee...because the coffee may be hot you could be sipping it...where as the other liquids you may be taking in alot of air with it..Have you tried sipping it?

Good luck!
