Here is an interesting case being played out in Canada.....

Our Tim Horton's is having a national contest...Roll Up The Rim to Win....rolling up the rim on take out coffee cups can win you anything from a donut to a new Toyota Rav4.

In one province, a 10 yr old girl found a cup in the garbage...her fingers weren't strong enough to roll up the rim, so she asked her older friend to roll. Lo and behold the cup was a winner for a Toyota Rav4!
Now the dispute is on as to who actually won the prize....the little girl that found the cup...the little girl that rolled up the rim?? The parents are now battling over "who" is entitled.
And to make the waters murkier...there is now an adult claiming that he/she (can't remember) was the actual person who threw out the cup, therefore the prize should be his/hers!

What would you do if you were the parent of the girl who found the cup? Claim the Toyota...sell it and split the money?
Keep the Toyota for your own family?

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Well... The guy who claimed it was his cup in the first place has no proof and shouldn't get a thing.

I think the girl who found and took it out of the garbage should be the winner. She could have... and probably should have, brought the cup home and let her parents roll it up for her, but instead asked a friend for help. Unless there was a promise to share whatever it showed... I don't think she owes the helper anything. It might be nice if they did decide to share... but I don't think it should be expected. :)

I'm anxious ot see what everyone else thinks. LOL

I'm also wondering if a 10 year old is eligible to win a Toyota Rav4. ?? She's way too young to drive so... ? Unless her parents can lay claim to it... :)

I am not sure what I think yet because I am too busy trying to figure out how you roll the rim on a cup?

Darlene, I haev been following this story too..I think it is crazy...Not sure what I would do. It will be interesting to see how it pans out.

On this Tims topic, my Mom and Sister went out for lunch last week. On their way back to drop my sis off at work they stopped at Tims. Mom gives sis money to buy her a coffee. So Sis goes in buys Moms coffee first then orders hers. Mom gets home finishes her coffee, rolls up the rim...and win one of the bar B Que...Now my Sis is saying it should have been hers...LOL Mom says no way, sis can have her old one...So there you go..My Mom is a winner of a Bar B Que she is so excited.

This kind of reminds me of my 40th birthday. I didn't want people to bring gifts so they brought lottery/lotto tickets. It was interesting to see how many people signed the tickets just in case I won big and wanted to share with them! LOL

My opinion is the girl who found the cup should win the prize.
Did I read right, that there is only ONE adult claiming they threw out the winning cup? I would have thought there'd be at least a hundred making a claim like that, lol.

I don't think I could fight over a cup with a prize like that and feel no shame. This story is unbelievable as to how some people can be. The person claiming to throw out the cup, well too darn bad. You throw it out then you throw out the possibility of any prize too. Not one person in Canada can say they were unaware of the roll up to win contest! LOL With kids, truths can get muddled. Maybe one is saying she found it when they both did and it was one who actually did the picking out of the garbage? There are always three sides to every story and since no one will know the third, they should sell the prize and split the money between the girls, right into a bank account for college.

Nothing new that I have heard. Lawyers are involved, so it may take years to figure out!

As for only one adult claiming it was their cup...it was thrown out in a school I believe so a fairly controlled environment...not like it was a trash bin on a street or anything.

:)

Thanks Diane, what an interesting story albeit sad. Not a very pleasant situation for two little girls to be in the middle of.
