View Full Version : I just saved $75!!
I took my dog into PetSmart to get a bath and brush. Well, they had him down for a summer cut, bath and brush that would have cost me $75!!! I told them no way and they rescheduled me for Tuesday for a bath and brush for $40. I got to thinking that it was a ridiculous price. So I got home and 2 hours later, he is 3 lbs lighter. I only had to swear 7 times, carry him up 3 flights of stairs (he hid in the basement because he knew I wanted to bathe him) and threaten his life a dozen times because everytime I turned around, he tried to beeline it out of there. He looks..well...less like a lion and more like a lamb! LOL Im getting a poodle or a rat dog next! LOL

LOL!
That's why all our pets are outside in the back yard. Bathing dogs is the worst!
Heck, I am getting in the dog grooming business!!!! 75 DOLLARS to bathe a dog??????????? WOW
But way to go babe!!!!!!!

That must be some good shampoo they are using. Does it include a full hour, total body massage???? With the eschange rate it would cost me over $100 just to bathe the dog and brush him. Not happening!! My old wash tub and hose will do just fine. (We don't have a dog but the dk's are begging for one. We'll see after we get settled in the new place.)
dd and ds asked about setting up a lemonade stand when we move. Maybe I should advise them to go into dog washing instead. If they start now maybe they could put themselves through university when the time comes.
My goodness that is high. It cost me $18.00 to get my dog (a shih tzu) groomed. They bathe her, trim around her eyes, trim a little on her beard and feet, and give her a thourough brushing. It cost $15.00 for me to get a shampoo and cut.
Thinking about taking her in today. I love the long hair but it is really a pain. We bought new mulch for our beds this year, and got shredded by the truck load, instead of chipped bark and she is constantly getting it in her hair and tracking it in the house. I don't know what she'll look like but am seriously considering a summer do for her.
It was $75 for a summer cut. I believe that is a huge trim and thinning out with the bath. I thought it was ludicrious too. I guess it costs more because it takes a more "specialized" person to do it. Heck, I guess Im specialized enough! LOL He does he really thick hair and it took me over an hour to just comb him out. I hate when people get me mad because than I have to go home and prove I can do a better job myself. Now I have sore muscles. LOL

I'm LOL because that sounds so much like what I have to go through to bathe Pandora. Two weeks ago I told dh that never again will I do it myself. She is either done in the backyard or at the groomers unless he wants to hold her in the tub while I try and soak her.
$75 is steep. Here at PetSmart they wanted something around $55 or $60. I told them she was just a puppy but it didn't matter because they go by the kind of dog she is no matter what the size. I didnt' go but looking back I should have asked how much for a mutt? then act suprised to find out I had a Newf! ROFL
Couldn't get Precious in til Thursday. I did go ahead and brush her, bathe her, then re-brush and dry her. It took two hours. All that hair! My thinking is that if they cut the hair off, then there isn't so much to de-tangle and brush out, but what do I know. Still $37.00 an hour is steep. I've never had a full-blown hair cut for her, I don't know how much extra that will be. I guess I'll find out Thurs.

I quit my regular groomer (long story) and was having a hard time finding a new one so I decided to buy a dog grooming kit and do it myself. They give you this video that shows you how to groom your dog... Yeah, sure. LOL It NEVER goes as easy as they say it's going to. LOL You couldn't pay me ENOUGH to do that job... IMHO these pet groomers earn every penny they make grooming these dogs. LOL I've always bathed her, and she's never minded getting a bath... but every time I even got NEAR her with that shaver she'd stick her tail between her legs and run like crazy. I finally enlisted my youngest dd to help me by holding her. Every time I got near her with that shaver she'd growl and shake like a leaf... (poor baby... ) Anyway, by the time I got done with her she didn't look like too much of anything. (She's a Lahsa Apso) She hid and refused to come out... for anybody. My sister laughed so hard when she saw poor Tiffany... and teased me that the poor dog was too embarrassed to come out and show herself in public. LOL I didn't think she looked THAT bad... LOL Anyway, after going through all of that, I found myself a nice girl who does a great job, and for only $32.00. (I'd gladly pay $50.00) LOL That's the bath, cut and two cute little ribbons. (or a bandana) They always tells me what a good/sweet little girl she was for them... Ugh, I can't IMAGINE how she let's them get away with using the trimmer on her and not me... Anyway... after I paid for it I felt it was well worth every penny. LOL I will NEVER do that ever again.

I don't have Max groomed, but have given him baths myself and never will do it alone again either, that horse knocked me down and ran down stairs into the living room fully shampooed....LOL  $75 is way too much, glad you got it done yourself, we even clip max's nails ourselfs, it not as bad as it sounds, but we can't afford the 15.oo dollars for a trim, as offen as he would need it...
Oh what we won't do for our pets. My dad is the worst. I tease him all the time now that he takes his dogs to the "doggie dentist". He never took his kids to the dentist. I never saw a dentist til I was 20.
Precious got her summer do. They still only charged me $18.00. However, I don't recommend a summer cut for a shih tzu. Bless her little heart, she is just not the same dog. I really don't like it. They trimmed her face, ears, and beard like they always do, left her hairy tail and in between cut her really short. She is this long skinny dog with a big square head and bushy tail. I thought I'd give it a try, but won't ever go this short again. To make matters worse right after we got home I see the Mighty Dog commercial with the shih tzu walking down the street ("Do dogs know they're beautiful?") My poor little Precious is not beautiful any more. Hope it grows back quickly.

The same thing happened to us one time when we took Tiffany in... When we got her back they had completely shaved her except that they only trimmed her face/beard and left her tail long. She looked like a little miniature lion... She was quite proud of herself though and must have felt justs beautiful because of the way she was prancing around... LOL We've never done that again either.
Diane...
Oh, I wish I could say she was feeling beautiful, but she has been kind of "sedate" all day yesterday and even today. I don't know if she was over-traumatized or they gave her a sedative.
