Karla's mention in the daily thread about Easter baskets got me thinking. I decided to get my boys tennis rackets and tennis balls for their Easter Baskets. I got the rackets at Target for only $12 (pretty decent ones, too). I think this will be a huge hit!! (ha ha!!) We don't give much candy...so I'd rather put a $10-15 gift in the basket and call it done! lol

What is the Easter Bunny putting in your dks baskets??

I have NO idea. There is a Nintendo DS game that looks cool. Warioware: Touched. But, it's 35 bucks!!! 8o

I thought I might put in a movie like Narnia or even some new badmitton rackets/birdies. I won't decide until next Saturday then I'll be running around like crazy. :)

I know. When dd was little, it was a little candy, a coloring book, etc. but as she gets older.... she doesn't need any more stuffed anything  or nail polish or bath/body junk and I figure the movie is something she'd get lots of use out of. Who knows what I'll end up doing though. I'm a total last minute person.
I keep asking dh what we should do or what he wants to do for Easter and can't get an answer, so I guess it's NOTHING. lol Suits me fine this year. :)

Getting Haven similar items as your dd. They are about the same age. Thought I'd get her some applesauce and some baby friendly snacks. She loves saltine crackers (but what kind of treat is that).

Funny about the play cell phone. Braeden is obsessed with phones (we bought him tons and if he didn't have one, he'd pretend something else was one) but Haven has no interest.

Braeden will probably get markers, paper and a new Wiggles CD.

It's funny to me because us as kids only got candy....LOL. If we were really you maybe coloring books and crayons thrown ing or stuffed animals.

Glad i don't have to really worry yet....probably make dbf one....If he doesn't keep annoying me....lol.

:biglaugh: I still make up baskets (actually they are tuppaware containers, so they can be used after they're empty) for my dd's and have now added their dh's/bf. Those are usually just candy items, unless I know they want a certain cd or movie... I'll get them those jointly. :)

Because Sarah can't eat candy (except for M & M's... she  's those) I've gotten her mostly toy type things along with a bunch of cute little summer outfits. which I  shopping for. LOL I also got her a Barney and Elmo movie. I'd still like to go out and buy her an Easter dress/shoes... but so far haven't had the time to meet up with Dawn to do that.

It varies each year but we don't buy anything major like a new bike! lol I try to come up with something neat that the kids could use later instead of a straw basket like a giant sand pail but have had them decorate paper bags the night before once. Oh ya, one year it was Mil's laundry baskets! LOL I am not sure what to do for the basket this year, too bad they don't need new rubber boots, would be cute to fill those. Maybe next year. In it goes anything like sidewalk chalk, bubbles, frisbies, ball toss games. Movies, this year ds1 is getting King Kong, ds2 is getting Narnia and ds3 is getting Chicken Little. This year I found a few little (cheap) toys in WalMart that are fun to add in like a mini etch a sketch but shaped like an egg. I buy the hallow chocolate so it's not too much, some smaller candies like jelly beans and smarties.

OMG!! Dh's parents did that for dd a few years ago and I was ticked. They had it at their house and said the Easter Bunny left it. (smiley with smoke coming out of ears)
I was happy she liked it, but that's over the top for the EB, if you ask me.

No kidding! And just how are you supposed to match that one the next year??? I'd have been ticked too, especially no asking us about it first. They should have said it was from them and a spring present, early b-day gift or whatever but not Easter. jmho

One year when the two older boys were really small dh had his poor sis going. We were all at my in-laws for the weekend for Easter and her and I both checked with each other to make sure that none of the kids were getting too much compared with their cousins. Dh walked into us discussing what we got and he tells her we got the boys each a bike! Well the look on this poor gals face was priceless, she looked totally panicked but I didn't let dh drag it out too long. lol

we use the same basket and Stuffed bunny for each kid....there are usually something like a paddle/with strig attached ball or gazzoo something silly, always a See Candy chocolate bunny...nothing huge....

We are going to my Dad's and his wife's for dinner and the day...this is a first for us as a family, so...I have no clue as to what the day will hold.

do you get them a new basket each year or reuse the same one each year?

As a kid we reused ours and my kids do too. It's kind of funny though ds #1's basket is smaller than all of the other kids' baskets. They just kept getting a little bigger with each child! LOL

When the kids were little they got little toys, especially outdoor, summery time stuff like sidewalk chalk. As they've gotten older it's been candy and sporting stuff-- frisbees, volley ball, etc.
This year I got the 3 youngest nylon kites and candy for their baskets. The two older boys got blank CD's and candy. It's not too exciting is it?? My mom will give them a goodie plate with their favorite cookies and homemade noodles that she makes.
We've always gotten the $1 kites for all the ( my folks') grandkids. We'd decorate eggs on Good Friday or Saturday and then fly kites in my uncle's field across the road. Not sure what we're doing other than dinner at mom & dad's on Sunday.
I can't believe it's next Sunday already. Time is slipping away so fast!!

They got one special basket for their first Easter and used it every year. Not sure where they are now.

I reused the same baskets for a few years, then as the kids got older I used something else as the basket. One year they does Game Boy cases as their "basket" and it had some candy. One yr ds got a hot wheels care case- you get the idea. This year the kids are just getting a big Kinder Egg (I think Mel mentioned them in a thread where we were talking about candy from different places). I have no clue what's inside them, but that's all they are getting. LOL

That keeps changing....LOL

My family tradition is Fresh Ham (pork Roast)
dbf's is spiral ham....my family doesn't eat it much.
I had thought a Roast beef becuse it would be easier but now I'm leaning back to fresh ham.

I'm not the greatest cook but my sister and dad will help

Any Advice???????

do a brisket. super easy and almost foolproof. buy a trimmed beef brisket. rub grill seasoning all over it and place in a shallow pan. cover with foil. bake at 225 for 5 hours. pour barbecue sauce all over and cover back up and bake for 1 more hour.
serve it with either a potato salad or potato casserole and a big tossed salad and you are done.

Another easy addition to it is to cut up tomatoes, brocolli, mushrooms, zuchinni, yellow squash and carrots. put into a zip lock bag. add just enough wishbone italian dressing to cover all the veggies. add salt, pepper and garlic to taste. let it marinate over night in the fridge. to serve, drain and put in a bowl.

When the kids were little I bought them each a basket on clearance after Easter. They were normally pretty expensive, so we used them from year to year until they all moved out, and of course took their baskets with them and I never got them back. Then they started adding dh's and bf's... and baskets were no longer the thing to give them their candy in, (too childish) so that's when I started buying tuppaware containers, so they could use them for something after they were empty. This year I'm thinking about just putting it all in one container and save me some $$. LOL I already bought Sarah a basket, but it's not a regular Easter basket, so it will hold everything we bought for her. One year we gave her so much we ended up putting it all in a clothes basket. LOL

Unlike me, I haven't gotten a single Easter item. I am thinking of doing a "gift" instead of a basket. Maybe wrap up a movie or something since they will be getting baskets at my mom's. My mom called me a few nights ago to say she stuffed 550, yes, not a typo, 550 plastic eggs with money for the egg hunt on Sunday. I did pick up a few things for my mom's basket now that I think about it? I'd better dig that stuff out.

We always have hundreds of money filled eggs as well. My bil also scatters $100 in gold coins in the yard. Then he folds and hides 2 twenty dollar bills for the adults to find. They are really hidden well and it usually takes us a hour or better to find them. It's always fun. Ds has the kids this Easter and he's bringing his girlfriend and she has 2 kids the same ages as his kids. She is a really sweet girl. I like her alot.
