LOL. At work we are decorating residence rooms for summer tours. I don't believe this has ever been done before. It's to make the rooms look more homey and lived in. There is going to be a contest for the best decorated residence room. My co-worker and I are doing a double in our building. We plan to have live cactus and fish (with it being right in our building, we'll be able to keep the fish/plants alive all summer). We have made a list of what we want in the room and are bringing most of the stuff from our homes. However, we were informed by our director today that we have a budget of $200!!! We figure we'll use it to buy the plants/fish and candy for our candy bowls (how's that for bribery, lol?) out of that money. We are sure we'll win, lol. We joked that we'd have beer kegs and funnels, lol, but were informed we'd lose points for those items.

I am very excited about this opportunity. Since I never furthered my education much past highschool and have never lived in a dorm/residence, this is my chance (to at least decorate it). The director told us we could have a computer supplied to us as well. We'll get our keys later this week and we'll have til the end of next week to decorate it.

Karla, I am an assistant to 9 residence managers, assisting them during the summer mostly getting ready for training of all our 120 residence/programming assistants (undergrads who live/work in the residence buildings). In the fall/winter semesters I assist them with on-going training, the big hiring that takes place early February and any secretarial needs they may have. I am also back up to the assistant to the Assistant Director, Residence Life and Family Housing who is also my boss as well. The RMs are a hoot to work with!

Your job sounds so fun. Good luck with the contest, I would love to do something like that too! I hope you get pictures of the finished room.
