Yesterday was sports day in our household. Dd got a last minute call up to fill in at a gym. compition for another team-mate who couldn't make it. We had to be there by 11:00am. She ended up with a few awards.
2nd in Vault, 3rd in floor routine and uneven bars, best tumbler, and an overall 7th place finish out of a group of 48. She was a bit upset with her Beam performance. She fell off twice doing her back walkovers. She did them so well at practice the other day but it is a skill she is just starting to get the hang of. After the compitition we had to rush back to town to ds hockey school game. (he stayed with a friend during the day and they took him to hockey in case we didn't make it back in time) My baby scored his first time ever career goal!!!! He was so proud of himself. We all were very excited for him. When he asked to go to McDonalds to celebrate both him and Skylar, how could we refuse.

Linda/NE - I was never into gymnastics as a kid. Never really into any type of sport. I have had arthritis in both my knees since about age 3 or 4, so made it difficult at times. I can't say it slowed me down a whole lot. I was forever climbing up a tree in someones yard. Or playing "CHIPS" (really showing my age with that tv show ) on our bicycles. I use to enjoy soccer in gym class when I was able to participate.

Fern ~~ I'm not too up on level names but it is her first year in 'competitive' gym. She just turned nine in March. This was the last comp. for this year. I think they start again in Jan. She still has practice 16 hours a week all year through.

I don't know where she gets her energy. She never has much homework, usually only 1/2 hour if any.
Practice Sat 8- 12, Tues. 3:30 - 7:30
Thurs. 4 - 8, and before school 7:30 - 8:30 Mon - Thurs.
The gym is located right next to the school.
She may have to cut down once we move. She won't like that. She wants to increase her hours and hopefully make provincials next season. My seven year old neice is already in provincials, going for nationals when she is 10. She is already up to 24 hours a week.
dd may have the energy for it, but I don't know if I have the energy or the money to keep up with it. She really loves it, so will have to see what we can do.
I was worried about it affecting her school work, and we have talked to her about it but so far it's been ok. She has had straight 'A's since she started. The only negative comment ever on her reports is that she talks too much.
ds only goes 4 hours a week. two on Sat. and two Thurs. evening. He also plays hockey for one hour on Sundays. (1/2 hour hockey school, 1/2 hour game)
