Stupid math extra credit.
What were the first 5 leap years in the 20th century?
What is the last leap year of the 20th century?
(and understand there are those that believe 2000 is not the first year of the 21st century... so there could be different answers)
What will be the first 5 leap years in the 21st century.
I'm online reading that "a leap year is any year divisible by 4 but years ending in 00 are not leap years unless they can be divided by 400. :tearhair:
Good Lord!

The last leap year was 2004. So if you go backwards from there, the following years were leap years. I used my computers calendar to double check all of these.
2004
2000
1996
1992
1988
1984
1980
1976
1972
1968
1964
1960
1956
1952
1948
1944
1940
1936
1932
1928
1924
1920
1916
1912
1908
1904
1900
The following are going to be leap years.
2008
2012
2016
2020
2024
2028
2032
2036
2040
2044
2048
2052
What were the first 5 leap years in the 20th century?
1900, 1904, 1908, 1912, and 1916
What is the last leap year of the 20th century?
(and understand there are those that believe 2000 is not the first year of the
21st century... so there could be different answers)
1996
What will be the first 5 leap years in the 21st century.
2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016
Hope this helps you out!

Yay! I think those were the answers she got. She's gone to bed, but I'll see if I can dig out her worksheet and see.
She was able to figure out going backwards b/c she was born in a leap year (my due date was Feb. 29th!).
And yes, she even put "if you believe that 2000 is the FIRST year in the 21st century....." blah blah blah. :)
She was allowed to use the computer to find the answers, but all she kept coming up with was stupid analytical junk and Y2K stuff...
Thanks!

I am glad you got it figured out. I figured by the time I found it and got the answers, you would already have it, but just in case, I figured I would post it. That is a pretty challenging extra credit. I might have to steal that for my class next year. LOL!

Oh but thanks!! It's good to know we did it right! :)
There were a few more questions (much simpler) like:
What will the date be one year from today, one century from today, one millenium from today.
Then she had to write a word problem and if she brings the paper home tonight, I'll post another question she had... it had three parts and twiseted my brain! lol

The centuries till twist my brain. I keep wanting to say the 1900's are the 19th century. I have to keep reminding myself that 0-99 was the first century and 100-199 was the 2nd and so on and so forth. LOL!!!
