Has anyone done them this way? They sounds super simple, but wonder how they are when they're done. I'm doing anything I can not to heat up my oven or stove in this heat! (insert sweaty smiley)
I think I have, but can't remember if I wrapped them in tinfoil or not. Good idea about keeping the heat down. Today's the first day I turned off the AC since last Friday. I normally don't mind the heat, but man, it's been hot.

I brushed them with butter, pricked holes in them, wrapped them in foil and they are supposed to cook 2.5 -4 hrs. on high. We'll see how they turn out!
And stop bragging about turning OFF your a/c!! :{ :newwink:
Your turn will come and you'll be turning your AC off too (even if it IS September ;) ).

I'm to the point I don't think it'll ever happen! lol We did get some whopper thunderstorms today and it should be cooling down.
Let us know how the potatoes turn out. I'd love it if they taste like coming out of the oven.

I put fresh potatoes in the crock pot...tbsp of water...little salt/pepper and cooked on low for about 7 hours if I remember correctly. They were delicious....I am thinking mostly because they were fresh from the garden...but what a great way to make baked potatoes!
Perfect for leftovers...sliced and fried!
Or scooped out and made into twice baked potoates.
Hope yours turn out like you want.

There is no other way to make baked potatoes than in the crockpot. You don't have to hit up the oven. I have two crockpots going most of the time. IT is nice to come home and have your meat and potatoes done at the same time. The only change I made was rub the potatoes with butter. — Jun 17, 2003, 2 members found this helpful

That's pretty much what I did... we'll see how they come along. They smell great but are still pretty hard. I've got about 2.5 hours til dinner, let's hope they work out. :)

I never would have thought to do baked potato's in the crock pot... but it sounds good. I'm going to have to give it a try the next time I want baked potatoes. Let us know how they turned out. :)

You gals don't put your baking potatoes in the microwave? Fil does it all the time and I have a few times too. The outside doesn't get crispy or anything but it beats turning on the oven. The crockpot is a very cool idea, never would have thought of doing potatoes in it. Glad they worked out.

I put mine in the microwave usually, but nothing beats a baked potato out of the oven, well, until now, lol!
Shoot, roll up the foil to make three tennis sized balls, put them on the botton of your crockpot. Take a whole chicken, season it really well and put on top. cook on low all day and you have the best tasting rotisserie chicken!

That sounds so good. :licklips: I'd almost think that the chicken would get kind of dry though, especially with it not being in any liquid? I'll definitely have to give it a try. :)

Oh I still love the heat and I hate having to use the AC but I just didn't like sleeping or showering in that heat (thus the AC), lol. We went for a long hike on Monday in the heat...people thought we were nuts.

We did that until our microwave died 3 months ago. But they don't taste nearly as good out of the microwave.

Why couldn't you? You can't use it in a microwave, but never heard of not using it in a crock pot.

I have no idea why I thought that....cool..learn something new.
I guess if you have a small metal rack you could put it in too?
