We have planeed our sons six birthday party for saturday and now I am trying to come up with some ideas. He is having a race car shapped cake and I have the matching napkins and plates with cars on them.. I know he wants a pinata. But other then that I am not sure what else to do.. We are having it in the picnic shelter at our church and I thought we amy just let them play on the playground after they have cake and ice cream, he opens his presents, and they break the pinata. Also do you think we should ahve party favor bags too. or just the stuff they get from the pinata. Thanks for any insight.

How about a couple of really easy group games....maybe duck duck goose...or "crazy" races (backward walking, bear walking, etc).
Treat bags could include: car stickers, small matchbox cars, micro machine cars.

Angie,
I did a race car party for my son's 2nd birthday. How fancy do you want to get? One easy thing that I did was put party poppers in the pinata, but I replaced the label and made them into spark plug poppers. It was really easy to do - the AC Delco label is real simple, but they'd be fun with just the regular label, too. I've seen them arond a lot lately since it's getting close to July 4th. If you're giving the stuff out of the pinata as the favors, you might want to make up individual bags ahead of time and put those into the pinata so everyone gets the same amount. I also took flat sponge material and cut car shapes out of it. You can find it at any craft store. It's kind of pricey, but the kids had fun putting them into a tub of water I had ready and seeing them expend. Six year olds might not be as impressed with that, though. I also hung a string of black and white checked pennants all around the room. Any party store should have them. That would look cute around the pavilion you're using. An idea for snacks is to take those large pretzel rods and dip them into chocolate and call them dip sticks.
Here's a link to a site that has some more ideas:

Have a great party and let us know how it goes!
