View Full Version : Anyone want to go on a 9 day detox diet with me?
If anyone is hammy enough to watch Celebrity fit club (as I raise my hand) on VH1, there is a book that the MD wrote, called The Fat Smash Diet. There are 4 levels and the first one is detox. I know I need to detox because I have been working out 5 days a week and I have lost NOTHING. I need something to help my body flush this godforsaken fat. Here is the first phase:
Phase One: Detox
The nine-day first phase of the diet is a time when you eat primarily fruits and vegetables, to allow your body to cleanse itself of impurities and toxins. The focus on raw or lightly cooked (steamed or grilled) vegetables and fruits also allows your body to make use of the abundant vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that are present in these most natural of foods. During this phase, you establish the habit of eating four to five small meals daily at three-hour intervals. While the menu for meals is rather limited, there is no restriction on how much you eat -- though overeating is discouraged. A 20- to 25-minute walk after dinner (or some other light exercise) is recommended, or 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise five times per week..
Allowed Foods
all fruit
all vegetables except white potatoes and avocadoes
tofu
dried beans (e.g., chickpeas, lentils)
brown rice (no more than 2 cups daily)
oatmeal
limited skim or soy milk
herbs and spices
low-fat yogurt (no more than 12 oz. daily)
up to 4 egg whites daily
herbal tea
unlimited water
Anyone want to detox with me????

I'd love to... but I don't think (I know) that I couldn't eat nothing but fruits and vegetables for 9 day's. I hope it works for you...
didn't you just start exercising?
i would really like to do a detox, and I have a great one I did last year, but I am having a hard time figuring out how to do it with my hours.
Ann, it probably doesn't help that you work at a place that sells really good pasteries either. LOL I started working out since Sept 6th. Granted, I am lifting weights, so I am building muscle, but I should have lost fat by now too. Something is really sluggish in me and the detox is something I need to shock and re-balance myself.
Diane-if your current diet/exercise plan is working for you, then you definitely don't need this. :) I need my plateau reset. When I lost Flynn and I stopped eating (out of anxiety) and walked all over creation looking for him, I lost 6 lbs in that one week. After I started eating again, I kept within that weight range until I got that funky bloating PMS thing that hasn't quite corrected itself yet. I think I can do anything for 9 days if it gives me some results.
It's more the hours than the pastries. I am very rarely tempted.
not eating and losing 6 lbs in a week isn't healthy. your body is probably trying to readjust. Detox's are not supposed to be for weight loss. When I did my 3 week one last year, I only lost maybe 3 lbs. I felt fantastic though!
I have read so many conflicting things about detoxing. I tend to go with my nutritionists' position, if you are having regular bm's and drinking the correct about of water and eating healthily, you really don't need a detox. I went on mine for health reasons.
Have you had your yourly gyno exam?

I wasn't acutally trying to loose weight before. It was anxiety induced.
My body has fought against me ever since I had ds. I really think I am off balance hormonally. All my thyroid test have come back normal. Now that I have gotten older, I think peri-menopause has also been added to the factor. I really need to do something to shock my system. This phase is supposed to release all the built up toxins and cleanse cravings. I am doing it for my health AND to give me a boost.
I had my yearly in December. :)
Is your doc aware of the new values for thyroid? They have been lowered and alot of the docs haven't caught up.

I really don't know. If I really wanted to figure it out, I guess I would go to an Endocronlogist (sp?). I truly hate the thought on being put on permanent meds, so I am avoiding it. :(
from what i know about thyroid disease, you can't fix it on your own. it's not like high blood pressure or high cholesterol that can maybe be fixed with diet and exericse. all i know is that i feel 100% better now that my thyroid is working. losing weight is still hard, but not being able to function is worth the pills!
your phobia of meds truly scares me. my mom had one too and thought she could fix things on her own, and now she's dead.

I rather control the things I can and THEN see whats still left that might still be wrong with me. I'm not opposed to meds, just not as my first option. I have so many minor "problems" that who in the heck even knows where to begin. So what if I lose 10-15lbs by watching what I eat and exercise and many of my symptoms (bloating, PMS, lethargy) disappear or greatly lessen? If they don't lessen, then I can no longer blame my weight as a possible cause. I am the same weight as I was when I was 8 mos pregnant with ds. I remember thinking at the time that it was so much harder to get around, and how it would suck to be this weight all the time.
What really scares me is those people who run to meds like candy. :nervous:
