Is anyone else just overcome by mosquitoes this year?? We normally have quite a few but this year there are hordes of them. They are driving me crazy. The kids can't even play outside for any length of time without dousing them with fly dope which I hate to do. I hate mosquitoes!!!! Anyone else have the same problem??

Haven't noticed, but we usually don't have much of a bug problem in general here in the desert.
There are some natural remedies, aren't there? And I know that Avon's Skin So Soft also works (I know someone who buys it by the case for her horses!). I think it was a fluke that it repelled bugs, but they now sell it as a bug repellent and also put sunscreen in it (I think!).
We seem to be having them year round now. I like Off Skintastic for the body. If we are going to be outside on the patio for awhile, I will spray Yard Guard..that works really well. So do Cintronella Candles.
I didn't have very good luck with Skin so Soft.

Yeap, The yard critters are out and about. I use Off skintastic for us. I try not to use it too much only when working in the yard. Lately, we have been having night breezes that keep them away. DD keeps pretty active that they can't stay on her for a good bite. I do keep the Hydrocortizone around for the little itches.

Yes, Avon does have the repellent and sunscreen in it. It's deet-free too! Some people swear by it, others have no luck with it at all. I think a lot has to do with a person's chemical makeup though. I don't know if it works on mosquitos but I know that vanilla extract works on gnats.
We have them the size of quarters here! I thought people were just exaggerating, but low and behold they were right. They are horrible and boy does it hurt when they get you!

I have heard of using vanilla extract for gnats, too! :)
My (ex) :( sil NEVER got bit by mosquitos as the rest of us would sit next to her being eaten by them. :tearhair: It was unreal!! I always told her I wanted her blood!

Haven't seen too many yet but the seasons still early. They usually don't bother me too badly but eat poor dh alive. Doesn't seem to matter what he tries. I just tell him thats what he gets for being so sweet.
I remember as kids my one cousin use to sit still so they would land on him. he would wait for them to take a bite and he would quickyl pinch the dkin on each side of the mosquito trapping it. The mosquito would keep swelling up until it finally burst. GROSS!!!! I've heard that can be dangerous too. But that was him, anything for attention. He is now the father of a seven month old little princess, who I think is going to take after her daddys sense of humor.
I find that the off works pretty good on dh and the kids, but I am a feast for these critters, now what do I do when I am bit, I swell up and itch for days, sometimes weeks...any advice for the after bite problem? I hate these bugs....

I found a product called "After Bite" that works pretty well. My mom always used rubbing alcohol or a baking soda paste.
