I googled it and what I'm finding out is that hotels seem to be doing away with the bedspreads and going with a 3rd sheet ..
Full-service JW Marriott, Marriott and Renaissance hotels and resorts will replace the traditional bedspread with down comforters nestled inside sheeted duvets. The duvet covers will be freshly laundered for each new guest.
The company’s select-service and extended-stay brands will feature comforters snuggly fit between triple sheeting, including 200-thread-count, cotton-rich top and fitted bottom sheets that will be “mercerized,” a process that elevates the softness of the linens. The bedspread will be replaced by triple sheeting, which is commonly found at luxury hotels and resorts, including a decorative top sheet with colorful trim.
Did that help any? :)

I like it. I think it's a good idea. If there's a bedspread, I always throw it off the bed anyway (a friend who once worked in housekeeping at a big hotel told me that they were told that they didn't have to change the bedspreads every time. Gag!). I also usually bring my own pillow, too--something about the thoughts of someone else slobbering and drooling where my face will be makes me feel sick, too. (Where's that puking smiley face? )

I like it....I hate staying in hotels..The whole thing drives me nuts. The smell, the feel, and expecially the bedspreads....I always end up wearing longsleeve shirts and pajama pants in a hotel...and my own pillow....or I can't sleep.

Dh and I always bring our own pillow's... wouldn't even think of laying my head down on something someone else has slept on. (drool and slobber... ugh!!! 8o 8o 8o ) We've even brought our own blanket. I like to stay warm and a sheet just wouldn't quite do it for me. :)
