View Full Version : ? about the cranberry sauce pork roast
Dumb question here... what kind of cranberry sauce do I use? The only kind I know of is in the can and it's a gel kind of stuff. Is that what I use or something else? I feel like a ditz for even asking, but I'd like to try this recipe since so many of you like it.
I think Angie used the whole cranberries in the can. It's still kind of a jelly type consistancy.

I use the cranberry jell - I can't stand the whole berry kind.

How did you put in on the roast? Did you cut it cut or something?
too funny sista, i can't stand the jell..it's like a bad jello mold to me! LOL
but I also like home made cranberry sauce.
don't you do the meatballs with the cranberry sauce and chili sauce? you use the jell in that too?

I usually hate cranberries, but at the open house I was at last wknd the gal had some glazed in sugar and they were so yummy!! You just make simple syrup (boil 2 cups of water with a cup of sugar until the sugar dissolves and then let that cool a bit), soak the cranberries in it overnight and then roll them in fine sugar. She had them in decorative little bowls around her house and they were so good and looked really pretty! When I ate one my girlfriend about died - she thought they were fake and she was waiting for me to die of embarrassment and spit it out. LOL Anyway, just a yummy and fun idea. :)

Jen, I just mash it over the roast and as it cooks, it'll liquify and mix with the onion soup mix. :)
Ann, I make my meatballs with grape jelly and chili sauce. :)

Karla, I'm going to try to make those this year. Sounds so good! Thanks.
I've never tried the cranberry sauce with the soup mix, just the apple sauce. And now I can't, dh can't have the soup mix.
About the meatballs, how much chili sauce and cranberry sauce would I use? A jar of each?
Do you all make your own meatballs or could I use the pre-made pre-cooked kind?

Our WalMart carries the frozen Italian meatballs and I use 2 bags of those to 1 jar of chili sauce and 1 jar of grape jelly.

Those sound soo good Karla... LOL about your friend waiting for you to die of embarrassment and spit it out.... LOL Think I'll make these for when I have everyone over for Thanksgiving. If they go well, everyone likes them... I'll probably make them to bring over to my mom's house for Christmas.
I may have to try that cranberry recipe!
I do the same as sista, but with the whole berry can cranberry sauce.

Yeah, wasn't that just sweet of her? ROFL! I told her thanks a lot. :goofy:
Hope you like them - they're just a refreshing little treat...just be forewarned - they look frozen and icey...and fake! LOL You may have to encourage people to eat them. ;)
I also liked grabbing a handful of those for something sweet vs a handful of candy. :)
