wow!!!! $500??? holy cow.
i guess i am confused about the party. i thought you were having at that place so everyone could make one. it was just a venue for the party? wasn't that weird for your guests to watch you make a bowl?

No, no. It's actually quite a popular venue for lots of different kinds of parties (their web site is www.vetroartglass.com if you want to check it out). The glassblowers are actually kind of peripheral to the party. They had other commision pieces they were working on that night, and some additional pieces to add to their gallery. Ours was more of a come and go type event. You can take out those bleachers, have tables brought in, and have a dinner catered if you want. That might have been a little odd for everyone if we had done it that way and our piece was the "event". The party was the event, and our piece was kind of the entertainment.

Now, we did do ds's birthday party there, and it was a little more like what you're thinking. The kids didn't each get a blown glass piece, but they did each get to have a drinking glass sandblasted.

ok. didn't realize it was more of a venue place. kept thinking it was going to be more like how you described your ds' party but with wine and food. so the glass blowers are entertainment, like if you had a magician or something.
still, that's a pretty expensive bowl!!

Really it wasn't that bad compared to some of the pieces they have in the gallery. They've got $20,000 vases in there. A wine glass is upwards of $100.

Great pics. Not sure I would want to be the one serving anything alcoholic to people in a place like that! lol Neat idea, I would like to see something like that being made. :)

Compared to the $15 bowls I buy at TJMaxx, it's pretty damn expensive! LOL
Glad you had a good time. :)

Yep - Chase Aaron. He's the child that convinced me that action names are not a good idea!

We were going to put it on the coffee table (because the table is glass and the rug has the same deep red and gold in it), but we may need a bigger one now.

Well, see, this is what happens when you go to a wine auction - you come home with parties that include very expensive bowls.

It wasn't as stressful as having 20 nine year olds in there!

I love your thanksgiving pics...
Your younger son looks so much like one of my nephews I had to do a double take...
