I got to meet him when I was in college. Bob Hope was a huge patron of my university's theater program. He came with Bob Hope one time for a visit when they were in town for a golf tournament. No one knew about them coming really. We found out because our house mother said 'oh, you can't park in front of the house tomorrow cause there is something going on at the university club (which was 3 doors down) and the secret service have it all blocked off'. what??? secret service??? we were all standing outside the next day to see what was going on and out the two of them came. they visited with us and took pics for about 15 minutes. In trying to get closer to him and being somewhat short ;) and naive, I just sort of ducked around this big guy who was in my way...i suddenly get a gentle tap on my shoulder and look up and this big guy is a secret service agent. I must have turned all shades of white and green! He just wagged his finger at me and said 'next time don't duck under'!
May he rest in peace.

What a great story!

He was an amazing man; I'm enjoying seeing the old footage and hearing his latest memories of his presidency and his legacy.

Oh that is so sad! What a neat experience you had Ann. I guess I'd better turn on the tv.
