It somehow attached itself to the dog's leash and now I have a big ugly glob of red gum stuck to the carpet in my living room. HELP! How do I get it out?

You could try WD-40... it will not stain your carpet, and it will dissolve the gum. I have used this method before and it has worked...
OR you could...
Place an ice cube or two or three, in a baggie.
Put ice on gum in carpet.
Wait until gum completely freezes.
Scrape gum from carpet using a dull knife such as a butter knife or turn a spoon over and use that.
To remove final traces of the gum saturate the stain with a cleaning fluid, repeating applications as necessary. If a sugar stain remains, sponge it off with water.
Hope this helps... :)

I removed gum from a fleece jacket with peanut butter and it worked like a charm--globbed it on and used a comb to rake it out. Then I used spray 'n wash on the peanut butter--not sure how that would work on carpet...maybe carpet cleaner would remove the peanut butter from the carpet? Or would this just make a bigger mess??? LOL!

I would try the ice and scraping first.
There is also a product called Goo Gone -- I got it at the hardware store.
My sister uses that Orange Glow cleaner on things and really likes it.
But for both of those, I have not actually used them for gum.

I've used my hair dryier to soften the gum and then in scrapes off pretty well, but do need to use a bit of rug cleaner to get off the last bit of residue. MIL told me that 'crest' toothpaste and an old toothbrush work too, but haven't tried it. Good luck!
Coulie, you could just get a bunch of packs of different flavored gum, spread it around and call it ART! Amy

amy,
we tried that in the house and ....well....suffice it to say...we had to move out.
I am trying to limit the art to the ceiling in this place. The kids are using fruit stripe right now...what do you think?
