Anyone see it last night? I don't make a point to watch it, but I watch it if I happen to catch it on tv. It's so over the top (I guess that's deliberate! LOL!). I remember one with a Pagan and Evangelical Christian (the Christian woman was a nut--WAY out there!). And last night was a tattooed/pierced atheist and Evangelical Christian. The ones that I really don't like are the country bumpkin unschoolers (with chickens running around the house) with the yuppy city folk with the lawyer/doctor mom. They had a home schooling circus act family, too, one time. The home schoolers are always way out there, too! Gives us home schoolers and Christians a bad name! LOL!

I've seen some episodes. Like you, I don't make it a point to watch but if it's on and there isn't much else I will watch it. I saw it last night too. The athiest family tried to come across as so open minded but made it a point to do everything they could to show a close minded opinion of God and church. It was terrible. And the kids were (to me very obviously) only imitating their father and his behaviour. They threw down the bible if he did, they were willing to go along with the Christian woman and say a prayer and he jumped in. What was he so afraid of? Wether they agreed with the woman or not, it was a total lack of respect and she made that point very clear at the end when she said it when the couples met up but he was so busy yacking away he didn't hear it. I think he better take another look at the term 'open minded'. lol I always wonder how stupid some people feel after seeing themselves on t.v. in a show like that.

I was so sad when they tossed the bibles on the floor and called them "firewood" I couldn't watch it anymore. I never watch it anyway, but I was flipping and the tatoo's stopped me and I couldn't turn away, lol.

ITA! I think they were just as forceful about putting their beliefs onto their children as the Christians! And I thought the Christian dad was great--he was open and not disrespectful at all.

I know a woman whose dh is an atheist and he tells their young children that there is no God. We were having lunch with them one day and ds said something about Jesus and her son said, "There IS no Jesus! There is no God!" Ds was horrified! I later told her that I have my opinions about what she and her dh are doing, but that's really none of my business--but what IS my business is what her kids say to my ds and I told her that she's to tell them to NEVER discuss religion or beliefs with my son again.

I think it is incredibly sad to teach a kid that there is no God--no nothing, no higher power, no universal force, no life force, or whatever. I think it's so much easier to go from believing to not believing than it is to go from not believing to believing. And I found so much comfort in praying as a kid--I felt like "Someone" understood and was there for me no matter what.

I liked how the dad handled the atheist woman clearing the house of religious items and Bibles. His daughter was crying and he said something like, "It's ok...she can take all that stuff because everything is right here." and he pointed to his heart.

She really looked freaky with all those tatto's... weird couple. I don't make it a point to ever watch this show but when I see or remember it's on, I'll usually watch it. I loved watching Nanny 9ll last night. Very emotional.

Mickey, I like how the dad handled everything too. He was open minded even if in the dark ages a bit on the whole 'man house, woman clean it' kind of attitude. He was willing to change and I loved how he told the kids that it didn't matter what came down from the walls because what is in their hearts couldn't be taken away.
When I was a teen I did a ton of babysitting, volunteering to look after little ones during church and taught Sunday school to the 2 year olds and loved it. I also had a friend who was an athiest. He never walked around talking about it and I didn't know for a long time even though he knew how often I was in the church and would sometimes walk over to meet me when I was done. I'm sure a lot of times, being the chatting gal I was, I rambled on about the kids and what they were doing that day or whatever and not once did he tell me his opinion and I was clueless for ages that he was an athiest. One day the minister called me up and said he was bringing some teens to the next town to go taboganing on this huge hill and would I like to go. Ok, can I call up a few friends to meet us there? yes. So, W meets us there and we have our fun on the hill. Then the minister calls us in the shack for hot chocolate and there is a big crowd in there. They all start singing hymns and songs from church. The look on my pals face was priceless and I cracked up. I really had no idea that this was going to be happening. We both had a great laugh about it but he did say not to ask him to meet me when I was with the minister anymore. lol Anyhow, my pal, being 15 at the time, handled it way better than this grown man did on t.v last night. He clapped his hands and even tried pretending he knew the words to the songs and thanked everyone for a fun night when he left. Very graceful, too bad everyone couldn't be so accepting of other peoples religious beliefs.
