a while back, i asked this girlfriend of mine to ask her older dd to help me get some songs loaded on dd's ipod for xmas.
i specifically asked my girlfriend if her dd's still believed (they are 12 and 15) b/c i didn't want to tell them "this is from santa but i need your help with it" - i didn't want to blow the santa thing for them....

she says they never told her they didn't believe anymore but were pretty sure they know "who" santa is and that she'd tell them it's for a "very special gift" for my dd and they'd get what she was trying to say. she added that she was grateful that i took her and their feelings into consideration before i asked for their help.

well tonight, my dd tells her younger dd about getting the ipod for xmas (totally excited to tell her) and my girlfriend's dd said "yeah, i knew you were getting it!"

Arrrgggghhh! so dd gets in the car and says "mom, how come "E" said "blah blah blah"?
Oh honey, she must have meant to say "oh yeah? I knew you WANTED one".
I am irritated and deflated and want to ring this kid's neck all at the same time. just another nail in the coffin of believing in santa. but as i type this, i guess i was setting myself up for this by asking for any help at all....

i'm still pi$$ed though! lol

shame on the girl, but all you have to say is 'well, of course she knew..you asked Santa for it, right?'

I agree with what Ann said...I'd stick with that story.

I'm wondering if the girl really wasn't being awful and just assumed that your dd no longer believed. My ds figured it out a couple of years ago on his own (it spilled over after an inquisition about the Easter Bunny--why would a real rabbit want to deliver eggs, he can't even carry a basket, and there's no way he'd make it all around the world in one night, etc.). And most, if not all, of his 10yo friends don't believe anymore.

I know how upset you must feel, though. You try so hard to keep the dream alive. I was so sad when ds stopped believing. :bawling: I hope your dd lets it go at what you told her.

 Isn't that the way it always goes? Sorry it happened, but it sounds like you covered it up well. Hopefully it won't be brought up again. :)

I'd feel the same way sista. btw, how does dd like the ipod? Did you get some music she likes loaded? Don't forget you can put books from cd's on it!

Isn't that how it always works.... I think sometimes they don't realize it's still a secret after the fact.

I just got an email about things like this maybe I'll post it.

yeah... that'd be a great response for dd IF she'd asked santa for it.
she didn't, which is what made it such an awesome surprise for her. :\

she really likes it.
it's the nano and yeah i've figured out how to download cd's (had not thought of books on cd) but haven't found my way around the iTunes store yet to use her gift card.
i never got any help from the girfriend i asked (the brunt of this whole story) so she had an empty ipod, but that was okay. she also got an IZ to go with it, it's a hoot.

I sounds to me like your friend never even told her dd's that this was to be a gift to your dd from Santa. Could be since the girls were never told, they wouldn't know and accidentally let it slip. I'd be miffed too, but I wouldn't blame them for the girls.

not to be argumentative, but yeah they were told. i even got an email from one of them saying how happy they were to help, etc.

hopefully i put it to rest with what i said to dd and she won't wonder about it anymore.

Not argumentative at all...from your original post it sounded like they weren't told...sorry I mis-read.

I hope your dd doesn't question it any more Jen. Isn't the IZ a riot? The boys got one last year and my mom saw it and got one for my dad. He loves it too! LOL

my dh gave me one of the new clip on ones for Christmas and I was like 'what the f????..have you EVER seen me use a walkman in the almost 27 years you've known me???" he said, well you can listen to it while you are on the computer or cleaning. well, hon, i turn on the cd player and listen to that, what you are telling me is that YOU don't want to listen to my music! LOL

I wouldn't know what to do with one if I had one. I turn on my radio, and even then I don't listen to it all the time. I'd rather have it quiet than have anything on, except when I'm cleaning... I turn my tunes way up and work my buns off. L:biglaugh:L

We went through similar stuff with my nephew. My sister never did the santa thing. She told him santa wasn't real. Any time my dd would talk about santa, my nephew would tell her santa wasn't real, and make her cry. Made me soooooo mad!
