How are you? How is Ava? I haven't seen you post in a while, I've been praying for you.

Ava came home on 12/20, just in time for Christmas! It's been wonderful having her home, but scary at the same time. We've already had 2 ER visits. One turned out to be unnecessary, because her pediatrician wasn't familiar with her "norms". When she saw her lower than normal baby's pulse ox, she got frantic and rushed us to the hospital. That was an awful day!
She got her Mic-key button put on her G-tube yesterday. She was inconsolable all day/night after that, so she had to go to the ER to make sure it was placed properly. Of course, once we get there, she's happy as a lark. Placement was good, so they assumed her fussiness was due to pain, which finally subsided after 2 doses of tylenol. We didn't get home til 2am, so I'm a total zombie today.
Her cardiologist is wanting to do her heart surgery in April (when she's 6 mons old) if she can hold out that long. Hopefully once we get over that hurdle, things will be easier with her.
Right now, she still has awful coughing/gagging/choking fits which resemble her actions when she had reflux in the hospital. But she shouldn't be having any reflux since she had the fundoplication done. Just in case we are treating her with zantac again. This is the hardest thing for me to see her go through because it seems to cause her lots of pain, and none of the doctors can explain why it is happening. All I can do is hold her while she goes through it, until it finally goes away.
She is such a sweet baby. She reminds me sooo much of my dd when she was a baby. It's amazing how much she has changed our family for the better in her short 2 mons of life. It definitely hasn't been an easy road thus far, but it's clear to me that God has special plans for bringing her into our lives. I can't wait to see what the future brings!
Thank you so much for your prayers. It really means the world to me!
(((Beth))) I'm sooo glad she was able to come home in time for Christmas!!! :* She sounds like such a sweetie. How scary with the ER visits. I hope the doctors are able to find the source of her pain soon and take care of it. I wonder if something different than Zantac would help? Ds2 ended up on Prilosec because it shuts down more of the stomach's acid pumps than Zantac does (at least that's how the doctors described it to me in Sesame Street terms, lol). Anyway... I'm so glad she's home with you all! :)

I wonder if something different than Zantac would help?
Her pediatrician put her on Pepcid until she realized it conflicted with one of her heart medications. Zantac doesn't conflict with any of the meds she is on.
Ah, gotcha! I didn't think of med interactions.
I just KNEW you were going to take this position once the shock wore off. She is definitely a blessing and I believe amazing things will happen by having her in your life. :)
(((Beth))) I'm so happy to hear that Ava is home with her family where she belongs. Keep us updated.
So glad to hear from you! Glad you are settling in somewhat.
I think I mentioned I have a very dear friend whose daughter has down's syndrome. Her daughter had heart surgery as a baby also. If you would like her email, let me know.

I'm so glad you checked in and gave us an update. How wonderful that Ava was home for Christmas! I hope the docs can find an alternative to the zantac. I hope you can continue to check in once in a while to give us an update. How are the other kids doing? They must be just as happy to have the baby home. :)
