it's been a short and long week if that makes sense! LOL
ds has school today. he may start going to real school for one class (Chemistry)...we will see.
dd is going on a church retreat this weekend and leaves practically the minute she gets off the school bus.

Ann, how is ds doing with biofeedback?

I just need to clean the upstairs, which is basically bathrooms and vacuuming. It won't take me long, but I am feeling very happy that everyone is out of the house and I don't want to spoil this downtime by cleaning. LOL

It's raining cats and dogs this morning and I'm lovin' it! :) A friend is supposed to drop her two dd's off this morning around 9:30 while she has a doc's appt. downtown. My girls are sooo looking forward to doing schoolwork with other kids! (think share the trials, lol) I'm hoping they'll not have other plans and will be able to stay for lunch. :)

Dh and I are going out tonight if I have to drag him kicking and screaming! (I won't... but it's a funny thought) Nothing much else on today.

What grade is your dd in again, Ann? Sixth? It still makes me nervous to let ds1 go on retreats/camp, etc.! :nervous: He'd love it if he could go.

Well we have our first real snow fall of the year (that sounds weird). Schools are open but If it keeps coming I'm hoping they close early....LOL. It seems like there are alot of accidents out there.

Not much else planned here....Have a great day!

Heck, our dd is turning 11 next month and is wanting to go to church camp this summer for 2 weeks! I'd do it if we could afford it (720 bucks!).

Amy, he starts on Tuesday. That first appointment was just sort of a 'get to know you'. He will go every Tuesday for the next 3 weeks.

Pam, she is in 7th. I guess I am the opposite, she went to sleep away camp in 4th grade! LOL I do say a prayer for safety, but I still let her go.

Sista, talk to one of your ministers. I bet they could help with the fee. Last summer when things were so tight financially, our leaders waived ds' fee for work camp.

8o Yikes! Has it gone up that much in cost??? I remember it only being about $150 a week... back in the day! Okay, did I just date myself there?  I'm not sure how much ours is. Dd1 has gone twice to weekend retreats. Hated the first time, thought the second time was okay (that one was last month). I have to admit, I'm afraid that he'll not be treated well by other kids not from our church. :(

Cool and rainy this a.m. We had some snow flurries yesterday and it made me SO want a big dump of snow.

Gotta work, pick up mom @ the hosptial and then dd has dance but it's not my night to drive. :yippee:

Sd got moved into a room yesterday. He also got the NG tube out, but they put a feeding tube that goes directly into his stomach. I think they are hoping if the NG tube came out, his throat might be able to get over the irritation and maybe his suck/swallow would be able to come back.

Methinks I'm a bit overprotective, maybe? :newwink:  It's hard to let go sometimes.

Our church does the same. They have scholarships available, or, for the older kids, work projects for them to help with to work their way there.

That's great, sista! The NG tube does cause a lot of issues like that, doesn't it? I hope that will solve that problem for him.

Is he involved with the youth at your church? I imagine if he isn't, that would be hard regardless of any limitations he might have just for the fact that the kids don't know each other.

DD has two boys in her group (and I was their leader last year) that have varying degrees of Aspergers. For the most part the kids treat them nicely...or really like everyone else..sometimes nice and sometimes like jerks! ;)

He'll be in the youth group next year, but really he's grown up with these kids. They know him, his quirks, etc.

Home from work and have chili in the crock pot. Ds has basketball practice tonight. We had a wicked wind storm last night and lost power for a little while. Right during American Idol. At least it's just the horrible singers and not the real competition. Even though I find it funny at times, it does get old too.

Jen- I hope your sd continues to improve.

Not too bad outside... at least it's not snowing, or windy. We only have about 3 or 4 inches on the ground, so it's not too bad. I'm not scheduled to have Sarah today (Dawn took the day off) but I e-mailed her last night letting her know that she can drop Sarah off if she wants to have some time to herself... I miss not having her when she's normally here. I always enjoy my time with her. :) Anyway... haven't gotten anything back from her yet so, we'll see. Sarah is going to have to have surgery again to fix her diaphragm. They brought her in for a routine check up on Tuesday and x-ray's showed that the patch they used to originally fix it has stretched significantly, which is causing other problems that aren't good... so after a few more appointments they'll be scheduling her for surgery. (please keep her in your thoughts and prayers) I hate that she has to go through something else... she's already been through enough already for a 3 year old.

Dh and my night out to ourselves tonight, a trip to Wal Mart and back home to snuggle up on the couch with some popcorn, and watch some tv together. Glad the weekend is here...... :)

I hope you all have a great Friday!

This week flew by....

Work, then home....I am beat tired....I would love to go out for a nice dinner, but really thinking pizza a p.j.'s  we shall see what the day brings out in me :biglaugh:

both kids have early practice tomorrow, dh has an appointment at the dealership, so I am up and moving before 6 tomorrow as well....FUN FUN FUN...

Dd sang last night at the District, it was cute it was only her fourth grade class and I guess its an honor to sing at these things.....She was pretty proud of herself which was neat to watch. The waiting before hand nearly made me fall asleep....dh said he was waiting for the man next to me to ask me out....lol but he isn't the jealous type ;) OK.... MEN!

Diane, hugs and prayers for Sarah. Were they expecting this to happen at some point?
Sista, continuing prayers and good thoughts for your sd.

My oldest is in grade 7 Pam and I would never let him go to a sleep away camp. They have spent the night at friends homes but only those I know the family of. 2 weeks would be way to long for me! lol

Ds2 had a ski trip today, dh went and took ds1 with him. I got to sleep in (sort of) as much as I could with ds3. Of course I still had to get out of bed to wake everyone else up and make sure that they had what they needed. And I can't go back to sleep unless I know for sure they are dressed warm, even though dh would make sure too. lol Guess I'm too used to doing this in the am. Was going to go shopping today but dh's truck sucks in this weather and he took the van so I'm in all day.
Hope you all have a good one :)

They treat him... well. Not buddy-buddy, but well enough. I think in a pinch they'd be protective of him, too. It's the kids from the other churches that are there at the same time that makes me wonder. Dd1 had some experiences at camp that were rather unpleasant. I don't know how much ds could handle. :( He also has to have a really, really good rapport with an adult before he'll go to them for help.

Diane, I'm so sorry Sarah's facing another surgery.

Mel, we don't do the sleepover thing much, either.

Yeah, he's still on the critical care floor but at least we could put his cards up and I took balloons to cheer up the room.

It's too early to tell if taking the tube out has helped - we can only hope it will.
What bothers me is his confusion... mom said he doesn't know who she is. :bawling:
He knows his name and when the nurse asked who mom was he said "same". Then he said "brother" and called her the nurse's name. Bless her heart.

I'm curious to know if he knows each of his children; meaning, he calls the right one by the right name.

He might have aphasia from the stroke. Ask him without requiring him to use expressive language. Ask him to point to his wife, or have him point to a picture (from a field of 2 or 3), or have him point to her name written on a card, or have him nod yes or shake his head no to the question "Is your wife's name -----". I'd check all 4 ways because his visual perceptual and reading abilites could be affected depending on where the stroke was.
