For yourself? And do you feel guilty when you do buy yourself a cute outfit instead of putting that money elsewhere? And how often do you buy accessories? Or do you just get those when you get an outfit?
I was going through my closet trying to find something to wear when we fly to my parents. I have a few cute skirts ( usually what I wear in the summer) and only 2 pair of shorts. I was thinking that I could use an update but I always feel guilty when I buy something for myself. So I was wondering how often you shop and buy something for yourself. I am going shopping this week for a new bra and that I am dreading, I hate to shop for them but would love to pick up something else, maybe a sundress. But I feel guilty enough for having to get a new bra!!

I hate to shop so I usually only buy things when I need to, but I have never felt guilty. I am just as an important member of this family and have every right to new clothes as my kids and dh.

MM! I shop for clothes every time I'm in the mall :-). I am always looking for something new and fresh.

I particularly like Kenny Ma accessories. A little bit more expensive than run of the mill fashion jewelry, but well under what you would pay for artisan quality. I really enjoy his style.

By the way. It's Victoria's Secret semi-annual sale now through July 9. Jump in and buy something fabulous for a fraction of regular prices.

I never feel guilty. I earn every cent I spend ;-). ßß!

I usually never shop for clothes. My mil usually buys me an outfit or two for Christmas. But most of my clothes are at least 4-5 years old! I'm not in to fashion and only recently actually bought myself something. Just before Christmas I bought myself a few long sleeve shirts because I knew I was moving to AK. Then about a month ago I bought myself 2 new pairs of shorts. I probably won't buy another thing (clothes wise) for myself (other than underwear and bras) the whole 3 years I live here! I wear clothes until you just can't wear them anymore! LOL :)

Hi all. I don't very often go to the stores with something in mind to buy. I love to browse around and 99% of the time that I buy something it is on sale!
I almost always end up in the kids section and see something that they need/want. I used to be able to take whatever oldest dd grew out of and pass it down to our other dd, but they don't have the same body shape at all anymore.....oldest dd is tall and very slim whereas dd #2 is built more like me! So I am having to buy more clothes for the girls than I had planned. It seems they need clothes more than I do at this stage of life.
I'm like Jen, I have clothes that are at least 4-5 years old! I go for the comfort factor.....not for fashion.
Now if I could only lose 10-15 pounds I would have a reason to shop for myself!

I guess it just depends. I probably get a few new things each season?? I love to shop, but usually end up looking more for dks than for myself. For a while it seemed like I really didn't shop for myself much, but once I lost "baby" weight it felt good to get new things. I think part of why I didn't buy for a while was I knew I hoped/planned to lose the extra weight and it seemed like a waste to buy stuff that I wouldn't wear very long. I used to feel somewhat guilty about buying new clothes for me, but dh usually encourages me to "treat" myself, too. :) I do try to shop at stores with reasonable prices and I do look for sales....that helps with feelings of guilt, plus that way I can get more stuff.

Shop for clothes? With a 2yr old in tow? I can't even think! But during my recent trip to CA, I did splurge on capri pants, a Gap tank top, and sandals with heels. I feel very fashionable now. But being a fairly non-trendy, boring dresser, by the time I buy a "fashionable" item, that usually means it's on the way out.

Unlike with buying shoes, I really don't buy alot of clothes. I have a closet full of clothes, but that's becasue they are in varying sizes and I hardly ever throw anything away. If you keep it long enough, it comes back in style. I bought a couple pairs of shorts for camp last week. Those were the first shorts I'd bought in 5 years or better. For me it is just too depressing to buy clothes. Big hips, but really small through the shoulders. Rarely does anything fit especially dresses. They just don't make dresses a size 10 at the top and 16 on bottom. If something fits over the hips, it's hanging off my shoulders. I have to shop and shop and shop before finding something that really fits everywhere. Unlike my skinny little friends who can slip into anything sized 6 or 8.

But, I am losing though. It would be fun to shop for new clothes, but then again my body proportions stay the same so it may be just as frustrating. But at least I'm out of the "full figured" department. I'm back to the top end of "regular"

In thinking about my answer, I think I was misleading. I think of "shopping" as what my mom or some of my friends do..at least once a week they will go to the mall or some stores to "check things out" and see if there is anything new..I can't stand to just go look..if I am shopping I am buying!!! LOL And I don't feel guilty..if dh needs or wants new clothes, he buys them..if the kids need them, I get them for them..so why not me???
I love clothes and accessories, right now I am into Brighton jewelry..or Yurman knock offs (can't afford the real stuff! LOL) If we are going out of town or some place special, I will usually get a new outfit for it. Right now I am looking for a sundress for our trip to New Orleans next month, I am having to "shop" cause I am not finding what I want!

once or twice a year, and I never feel guilty....buy dh and the kids stuff alot, but usually when stuff is on sale.....or for birthdays or something....I love to shop, but not when I am not feeling my self....the weigh issue has stopped me from even going into the womens departments for a while anyway....

Ann ---- I found some very cute sleeveless linen/rayon blend dresses at Wal-Mart ---- they are the White Stag brand that I remember my Mom buying years ago. Linen may not be the best choice to pack, but for comfort, it can't be beat.

They are straight "shifts" but one or two styles have a liitle more fullness or "swing" to them. (And, I'm a hippy, tummy girl, but the straight ones don't hug me at all)

They have several different styles and colors - prints and solids. And, for 12 bucks, I've bought about 4 of them now!

I don't usually buy clothes @ WM because they tend not to last, but a 12 dollar dress --- geez, if it gets me through the summer, I'm a happy girl!!

I guess I've been trying to tell myself all week to get something. I am dreading wearing something from my closet on the plane. I want my parents to see me for the first time in a year in something nice. LOL It seems so silly because I know they will just be glad to see me but still I want to look good.
Anyhow, I think I will get something this week and do my darndest not to feel guilty. But I still have luggage to get!
I love to shop and will find any reason to go, even just to look, which is something my mother and I have always done. So I know I should do my best to control it here because guaranteed, shopping with her I will come home with a couple new outfits at least. :)

I was in the Brighton store 2 days ago looking at new watches. They told me that they'd replace my watch band (leather) for $12!! It has to be sent off though - kind of like everything else with Brighton. I'd like to have the "Lee" bracelet watch.

Jennifer..I saw those dresses last week, they are cute. I am looking for something a little more dressy for a wine tasting we are going to in New Orleans next month. Thanks. I did buy a bunch of fun sleeveless shirts from WalMart when I was there.

Donna..what fun! We gave my mom a brighton watch (one of the silver ones, but I don't remember the name) for her birthday last year she loves it! I have an Ebel watch, so I can't really talk dh into getting me a brighton one!! LOL

I try not to buy alot of clothes and live on what I get for birthdays and Christmas. I'm often the victim of saying "I'll buy them when I drop 2 inches off the old waistline ;)"

However, recently I purchased 2 new suits and I can't tell you how excited I was. I could barely sleep the night before I was so happy about having them. I only had one buisness suit and a Blazer. In commerical sales I really had to stretch things out.

I think it is important to treat yourself to some nice things once in awhile. Dw is very selfless and rarely buys clothes for herself. I hate when she gets cash for her birthday b/c I know she will want to spend it on me or the kids.

But with all the clothes handed down from other families for the kids, combined with all the clothes they get at birthdays, etc... they don't need anymore clothes!

Don't feel bad about treating yourself well. It will make you feel happier to wear some nice things which will be an ancillary benefit to those around you.

You go girl! ;)

I really hate shopping for myself. I do all the shopping for dh and the kids with no problem but when it's my turn I am way too picky and can never find what I want. Dh has actually forced me to go out shopping if we have a big dinner coming up. I don't feel guilty though, just tired of looking for "the outfit".

I usually get a few new things every season, just depends what catches my eye and meets my bank book. I had fun shopping for the kids when they were younger, but they are getting too picky now.

My problem is/was that every time I went shopping my kids always seemed to be there with me... and they always seemed to find a bunch of stuff that they liked... and of course none of it was never cheap. LOL Pretty soon there was so much in the cart... and I'd start to feeling guilty about spending too much and so I'd end up going home with NOTHING. :) That and I'm SO picky. I don't like most of the colors or the designs that they have on most of the clothes they're making now adays... so I usually just pass until I can find something that I really like. I've got to get out (by myself) this weekend and try to find something casual but yet dressy for my dh's aunt's 80th birthday party that is coming up. I hope I can find something... :)

I rarely go shopping to buy... I do tend to feel guilty buying anything for myself because I know there are soooo many other things we need for the house, kids and dh needs new clothes for work... The list goes on and on... but once in a while I do push those thoughts out of my mind and "splurge" on an outfit or something. I love shopping even when I can't buy.
