Do ya'll get them for your dks??
Dd got one, but the boys haven't. We have had a few kids die in MN this yr and I am really feeling like I should get my boys in. :nervous: Just wondering what everyone else does.....

Yes, we get dd immunized.
I'm just wondering if it's really worth having your kids done this late in the season...?? The shot takes 4 weeks to take affect in your system and the flu season is about over....

They said on our news it's not too late and that the flu season hit late here this year. :\ It's on our news every day and they had big flu clinics going on this wknd.
Ds1 wants to know if the shot stings. LOL (You know how some meds sting as they go in, not the actual poking of the needle.)

Well then, I think you have your answer. :)
If you feel like you should, and it's not to late, it can't hurt imo.
If you have any doubt about not getting one, i would get it.
DS and I always get the vaccine, but didn't this year...not really sure why! LOL

Sarah's had her flu shot. Dawn said that since two kids died, the clinic she works at has been just full of parents bringing their little ones in for their shots. When I had my mom in to the clinic the other day there were a lot of people there waiting to get their shots too. I didn't get one this year seeing I wasn't doing day care but now I'm thinking it probably wouldn't hurt to get it.
We all got them and it didn't hurt at all. Even dd said it didn't hurt and she was a bit scared at first to get it.

You know I didn't because I kept forgetting then thought it was too late. I usually get it because of the asthma. I ended up in the ER after getting the flu....I could not breathe. Took weeks of nebs every 2-4 hours to get better.

Yes, I always have my boys get the flu shot. (They have asthma...but I would even if they didn't.) I always get the flu shot myself, too. Working with so many children...I have to protect myself! LOL The shot (medicine) doesn't "sting" like the DPT (booster?) does.

Right. But our arms were sore for a couple of days afterwards. The nurse told us to move them as much as possible after the shot so keep them from getting too terribly sore.

Thanks gals!! Think I'll figure out where they can get them this week. They are not going to be happy with me LOL, but at least I can tell them the shot doesn't hurt. ;) And, I can deal with them complaining their arms are sore for a few days. :goofy:

I thought you were required to get the flu shot because you're working with young children. I knew we were always pretty much told we had to have them. :)
No, I used to get them when we lived in NJ, and every time I would within a week I would be knocked down with a cold...LOL.. hey they warn ya when you get your shot you have a chance of getting sick.

I think they are highly recommended, but not required, When I was pregnant they recommended it and a nurse actually sort of talked me out of it saying (like Renee mentioned also) that some people actually get sick from it. :\

I remember my dad always getting sick after he had his flu shot. He'd always comment about why he even bothered. LOL I've had the flu shot, and other than my arm hurting (and that didn't happen every year) I never actually got sick. Not too sure if I'd bother either if it made me sick....

We're not.

I "had" to have one this year with my job. I planned on getting one anyway. In years past working with kids the only thing I have been required to have is a TB test every year.

Gosh, we don't have to have that either. At least not every year.
I can't remember if I had to have any vaccinations when I started working at the preschool. We certainly don't have to have any yearly ones.

That's interesting....no it's not required to get a flu shoot but yes to the TB...I think thats only when you start working there or maybe every 2 years.

I get one every year, same as the kids and dh. Don't get sick after it and I got one this year while being preg. Was fine. :)
For those who got sick after getting it, do you go every year? I wonder if your system is used to getting the flu shot each year you have a lesser chance of getting sick after taking it?
