This was supposed to have stopped years ago!!! She'll be five next month and there are still times that she wakes up in the middle of the night crying like there's no tomorrow. She can never give a reason why she's crying but she's been up three times now tonight since she's gone to bed two hours ago! She knows what dreams are and she says she's not dreaming. It doesn't seem like night terrors because we wake her and she's coherent. I usually make her get up and go to the bathroom just to help wake her up some more and sometimes that helps but it didn't do anything tonight.

She's in her room now with the light on. I told her to read some books until she can calm down. It gets really frustrating when she keeps screaming for apparently no reason. Has anyone gone through this? When did it end? Is there some insight you can give me? HELP!!!

I thought of night terrors. My oldest ds used to have them around the age of 5 if I remember correctly. We'd comfort him and he was able to go back to sleep. We did cut sugar from his diet though and the night terrors stopped. You might try that. It was the first thing we did and it worked. Someone else may have other suggestions. Hope you find a solution.

My ds is more likely to awaken in the night if he has been watching tv before bedtime. I think it may be too much stimulation and he can't get settled down for a good nights rest.

My ds who is four used to have night terrors. Now if he wakes up I am actually able to talk to him and he will respond, so I have recently been able to rule those out. :) I do find that he usually wakes up crying if he is completely overtired or wiped out.

Funny how we all have different experiences with this so far! :) Good luck!!
