View Full Version : Need ideas Please
DD is having her best girlfriend (the one who goes to the other school) spend the night Saturday. I adore this little girl, she has so much energy...I am looking for easy fun ideas to entertain these two 9 year olds....anyone? I know they will watch a movie or two, popcorn, giggle....
Can you tell we don't do the sleep over much here. Although now that basketball is over we are going to start. HELP
We have sleepovers often and the one thing I don't do is entertain my children or anyone else's! They will do their own thing. We all usually eat dinner together, but that's about it. Not that I don't check on them to see what they are doing, but they usually do their own thing. Like you said, watch movies, hang out, giggle and talk (the girls anyway). Ds and his friends watch movies, play video games and build with Legos. It's really simple, you are over thinking it!

I never plan anything for the kids when they have a sleepover. Unless it's something like telling the kid to bring a swim suit or snowpants I stay out of it. They entertain themselves and when/if they are up too late or getting to hyped up, I tell them to pop a movie in. I know what they are up to (usually video games or playing outside) but it's not a birthday party so I don't feel I have to direct anything. :)

I always let them decide for themselves what they wanted to do. There was always a lot of things to pick/choose from, so if they got bored... it was their own fault. LOL Dd had a sleep over at one of her friends' house once and came home complaining that her mom wouldn't leave them alone. LOL :biglaugh: I guess she was trying a little too hard to make sure the kids were kept busy and overdid it a bit. :) Good luck!!!

You could do a mani/pedicure. My dd loves to do crafts with her friends and is into beads right now. Make and decorate sugar cookies with fun cutters.

Ditto to those who said they don't entertain them! I'll offer them snacks and an idea if they are bored (rarely happens), but other than that they are on their own and they love it!
Ya'll are too funny...
:biglaugh:
I didn't mean I was going to entertain them....
So I have it covered then...snacks, movies, air mattress
Thanks ladies

We rarely do sleepovers here...I'm just not that into having kids spend the night, I guess. On occasion, I will let dks have one friend over...but it's not a regular occurance. I think maybe it's partly because I see these kids all day (they go to the school where I work! LOL). Plus, I taught them all at one point. LOL I'll never forget one time that ds2 had a friend sleep over. In the morning, I came downstairs to get some breakfast ready...still had jammy pants and a sweatshirt on. Had my glasses on...and I'm sure my hair was somewhat "bed-heady". Ds's friend says (in obvious disbelief), "Does your mom always look like that in the morning??" Ds says, "Uh...yeah." I was overhearing this conversation...and I had to sneak into the powder room because I was laughing so hard!!! I totally wrecked the image that this kid had of me....probably thinking I just slept in my "teacher clothes" or something. It was funny!!

That's funny. I remember the first time I saw one of my teachers outside of school... in a restaurant, and she was smoking. 8o (way back when they still allowed smoking in restaurants) My first thought was, who let her out of the school... and, what was she doing at a restaurant? :) As if her leaving the school wasn't bad enough... but finding out that she smoked was not something I could easily comprehend. LOL It took me a while to get over that. :biglaugh: I guess that's when I finally realized that teachers were human too. LOL

My house was never the sleepover house. I think the first time a nonfamily member stayed over was dd1's high school graduation. We've had more guests since then, with so many more out of town friends.

Oh, Ladies! The stories I could tell about being my dks' teacher!
Here's one of my fav's......
I was teaching ds1 at the time (kindergarten)...busy working mom with two kids (ages 5 and 3). Anyways...in class we were working on a story about pancakes, and I did a class activity where we made pancakes (from a box mix), cooked them on a table skillet, and ate them. Pretty fun...and typical Kindergarten thing. When we got home that night, ds runs excitedly to tell dh, "Dad! Did you know that mom knows how to MAKE pancakes??? Not just the kind that you put in the microwave...but the kind that you MAKE!!!!" LOL  Yep...I was a star in my child's eye that night.
