TAXES do it yourself or do you see a tax person?

Just curious. DH and I usually do it ourselves, as we don't own a home anymore, so its pretty basic filing....we never seem to be able to itemize our medical, always just under....thought if we went to someone they could find us more write offs?

wondering what everyone else does....sorry if this is too personal.

we started using an accountant when we moved to Dallas. too many deduction we could take cause dh was on commission plus having income property in another city made it more complicated than we wanted to deal with. we still use him cause of all the funky income/job changes we have had. plus dh would buy the lots for the houses and that always confused things. now we file quarterly.

We have someone do it. He can find a way to claim something we didn't know we could.

Because dh and I were both self employed it was always easier to have someone else do it. If we were ever audited we always had our backs covered...

Good lord, we have retained our own CPA now. :rolleyes: He charges us once a year, but he keeps us current on our business finances and taxes and also our personal taxes.

Gosh...I can't imagine having a family member do it. I'm sure our families don't know how much money we earn...and I don't know how much they earn. That would seem (to me) like awkward information to have, I guess.

That's about the way we feel. I remember years ago when we were first married, my mom offered to do our taxes for us, and we turned her down. I also remember dh's dad asking me how much $$ I make a month... and I told him, "enough". :biglaugh: He was SOOOO mad/insulted that I wouldn't tell him. (? Duh... if I wouldn't tell my mom why would I tell him? :rolleyes: LOL

We've had the same guy do our taxes for the last 22 years... :)

We do our own. A few different times we have had someone else do them because of different things on our taxes that particular year, but ours is pretty simple.
