View Full Version : Perfume
OK, have you ever smelled cologne or perfume on someone else and thought wow I really like that? So you go to the local Department store and sprits yourself with it, and YUCK...its like bug spray on you? LOL...well I have been lucky and both the perfumes I admired on someone else smelled great on me..BUT...my SIL's always buy me Shalimar, they all wear it and it smells great on them...it turns into a gross insect repellant on me....really stinky...I had to get back into the shower and wash it off....so now what do I do with these two bottles, I can't give them back as they were sent as Christmas gifts, dd really isn't old enough is she? Argh....I guess I favor the darker colored colognes/perfumes....
is this a rant or a questions...not sure...just curious if anyone else has grossed themselves out with a scent that smells great on others...

Give it to your good friend. Maybe it will smell better on her.
My mom wear's a great perfume, but I can't remember what the name of it is, but I just love the smell... until I tried it. Yuck!!! I read somewhere that perfume will sometimes smell different on different people. Guess that's true...

I agree with Ann. Do you still have the box?

That's happened to me. Over the course of a year or so, I'd comment here and there on what different women were wearing and oddly enough, each one said Romance, by Ralph Lauren. So.... little miss me goes and "invests" in some (it's so not cheap!).
Well, it did nothing on me. Luckily, it didn't stink but it just faded into nothing-ness.
So, I'm sticking with my tried 'n true Estee Lauder, Pleasures. Love it and get tons of compliments. :)
Ditto on the re-gift!

I dunno... I think that's stretching it Ann. I think anyone with any brain cells knows perfume always comes in a box!
Love the idea of the wrap job though - sounds lovely!!
Hey, mil flat out admitted she re-gifted me yesterday. lol It was a hoot. She said "I hope you aren't the one who gave me that. It was either you, or my sister". LOL Lucky for me, it was a Pampered Chef baking stone - that dh had actually worked like a dog to find for me, for Christmas. And all along, she had one in her attic.
They gave me a check as my 'real' gift, but wanted me to have something to open.
Now get this. I have everyone to our house for their birthday dinners, etc. Bil comes, brings cards, presents. He came to MY b'day dinner at mil's yesterday with not even a card. Didn't even say Happy Birthday. Now, I just had this guy's son over for a going away dinner... not b/c I want something in return, but darn it, I guess I want something in return! Go figure.

:( aren't families fun?
I think I can get away wrapping the perfume in the box...its Shalimar for heavens sake, this is a woman who know the price of everything..she will be tickled..and tell all her friend that her step daughter bought her Shalimar...

He brought cards/gifts for everyone else and not you? 8o  8o After all you did? That's weird!!! I'd be like... (in a teasing sort of way) hey, where's MY gift? ?( ?( Kind of rude... :( LOL

well, i must buy half brained perfume cause it's not always in a box!
i don't regift tacky stuff, and i always make sure it will be something the receiver would like, so i don't think regifting is bad.
tell your bil that i think he is tacky!!

LOL, will do, Ann!
After talking to dh this morning about it, it's highly possible mil invited him by saying "come have St. Patrick's dinner at our house". Which is how she really invited us! I just knew it'd be for my b'day too. So... I gotta give him the benefit of the doubt and if that's the case, he was probably embarassed that he didn't have anything. :(
I was thrilled with the baking stone! I've broken 2 and dh tried and tried to find one for me (not knowing any pampered chef reps...) for xmas. Next year, I'll tell him to go shopping in his mom's attic!

LOL
I would love to have an attic that stores stuff. Don't know why, just always wanted a big attic that had the possibility of renovating to more living space. Plus it just sounds cool 'in the attic'. lol
Talking about gifts. I recieved one recently and didn't know what to say the way it was given to me. Fil and his wife came for a visit last week (maybe it was 2 weeks ago, losing track of time). Anyhow, she said, oh I brought you a gift. Oh how sweet! Then she said 'I didn't know what you would want so you can have the choice of one or the other'. Choice one is a very nice pair of pj's from her store (she owns a boutique in their town). Very cute, nice pj's in my favorite color. Love em. Second choice........the match robe. LOL I was tempted to offer to buy the matching robe but figured that would have been so tacky! LOL I just graciously accepted the pj's since I am more a pj girl than a robe girl but it was an adorable set. It just struck me as funny the way she had done it but I do know it was meant as the sweetest gesture. :)
