I've been asked to be one of the parent representitives when our school interviews for a new principal. Can anyone think of some good questions to ask prespective candidates. I think I'll be expected to ask at least one.

How exciting!!

What is your position on standardized testing?

How do you handle discipline?

How do you perceive the relationship between principal and PTA?

Do you let parents request teachers?

What is your position on grouped learning?

Also,

*Can you give us an example of a difficult parent/student/teacher situation that you have been involved in, and how you resolved it.

*How do you communicate with parents? Weekly newsletters, etc?

*What have you heard about our school? (A good candidate will have done some homework!)

Our school is interviewing for a new principal, also. I'm the teacher representative on the search committee, so I'm also working on interview questions. I did this the last time we got a new principal, and you'll be amazed at the different styles of your candidates!!!!

Wish we as teachers at my school had a representative in the interview process. I'm begging right now to be in on the interview for an aide I'll have next year for an autistic child I'll have. Year before last I had an autistic child and aide and she was a nightmare. I don't want to relive that year again. Good luck with the interviews.
