View Full Version : I just don't get it sometimes
Just found out a friend of mine died last night. It's not totally unexpected, unfortunately he was an alchoholic, but he was only 41. What makes this even more tragic is that his mother has already lost one child to a car accident, her husband to a heart attack, her one remaining child's (daughter) husband walked out on her when she had a 14 month old girl and twin boys. The boys both have severe learning and behavioral disabilities. How much is one family supposed to suffer??
Both the mother and daughter are incredible Christians with such fantastic faith, that they are comforting US instead of the other way around.

Oh, how tragic! I'm sending prayers your way. I'm a believer that God only gives you what you can handle...but it sure is hard to believe in situations like the one you described.

Wow, it is always so difficult to see people go through those circumstances.
I've read a couple of books that focus on human suffering from a Christian Perspective. One is "When God Doesn't Make Sense" by James Dobson, and the other book is "Disappointment with God" by Phillip Yancy. Both books relay heavy references from Job, which is full of topics on human suffering.
The Dobson book goes through some of his own struggles with a daughter. She had to have part of her leg amputated and people would give him the pat answers like "maybe this is so we can all bind together." But he admitted that those statements didn't really answer his questions or make him feel better.
The Yancy book detailed many experiences including a survivor of a Nazi Jewish prison camp. Some survivors were driven more towards God and others drawn further away.
I've come to the conclusion that God isn't evil, he simply allows for evil to happen. And, I've also decided that there are some things that I will never understand until my time on Earth is done.
My heart and prayers go out to the family and I hope they are granted peace and understanding.
Thanks ya'll!!! Job came to my mind too, Brichard. I know that one day this will all make sense to me, but in the short run, it sure is frustrating sometimes! :)

Sorry to hear about your friend. Prayers going out to both you and this family!
So very sorry to hear about the lose of your friend. Just remember that "in all things God works for the good of those who love him." God doesn't promise that only good things would come to Christians. We need to remeber that even the difficult experiences can be used in God's overall plan for good. It would seem that your friend's mother and sister both understand this and it has made them stronger.
Prayers going up for all involved.
sorry to hear your news AnnW.....faith is strong and can hold you up....I'll keep this family in my prayers....
Thanks ya'll!!! The funeral was sad, but the family is just incredible!!! Their faith is strong. They are such a role model to us all.
