This year my boys each drew and picture on an 8x10 piece of paper....and added a note or letter. We framed them in very inexpensive frames for Dad to hang in his office. We also bought another very inexpensive 11x14 frame and found alot of our "doubles"/extra pictures of Dad with the boys. We collaged the pictures and added stickers, and hearts, etc. (He bought his own "gifty" gift....so I wanted the kids to make him something.)

My boys made dh a picture frame using the large wooden craft sticks. There are many variations on frames to make with these, but this is that we did:
Paint 4 of the big craft sticks and then glue them to form a frame. I drew a shape of a fish and had my 4 yo cut it out. He glued on a wiggly eye and drew a mouth. Find a small stick outside, tie a string around it and then tape the fish to the other end. Put a picture of your child/ren in the frame and then tape the stick to the back of the frame. I got this idea out of the magazine, The Mailbox. In there they showed the picture of the children holding fishing pole and the "stick" pole came out as an extension of that. I just put a picture of my boys in without them holding a fishing pole and it still turned out really cute and it was such a simple project. :) They also said you could add a small poem or note on the back of the frame. They have some cute ones at the "Idea of the Day" section of this site. Here's the link:

Another idea is to put paint on your childs hand and have them put handprints on a shirt with a little saying like, "World's Greatest Dad, Hands Down".
Hope these helped! Good luck! :)

I went in search of a cute project a few days ago for my 4yo dd to do for Dad. Well, this is what I came up with.
We got a white round tin box and my dd stencil painted a sailboat on the front with waves. We added clouds with the paint pens and Happy Father's Day . It was very simple and she loves to paint so she enjoyed it.
We put a gift certificate in the tin to a local seafood restaurant!
The other project was very simple as well and turned out to be so cute. I bought a frame that holds 4 (4x6) photos and has a small bulletin board and white marker board in the middle. The frame was a nice cherry. We got a sheet of people stickers that included "fishing theme" items as well. On the white marker board, we put a man for Dad and two kids. My dd dressed the people with sticker clothes and added fishing poles and a banner sticker that said "Fishing with Dad". Anyway, to finish it off I added grass and sky with permanent colored markers. It was so quick and easy and soooo cute! My dh will hand it in his office at work!
The tin was very inexpensive and the frame/sticker sheet cost a little more but it was well worth it!

In kindergarten last year, our ds made the following.....
a footprint (dip their foot in poster paint and have then step on paper) in the middle of a colorful page with the words "From the bottom of my soul, I love you dad!"
Get them to sign their own name and date it. Ds's was laminated too so it will last forever.
A great reminder of how small they once were and their "signature" at that age.
